Has anyone built a freestanding loft bed over an existing couch or such? I want my husband to do this for our little grandson. We have a 394ds 5th wheel Open Road(no longer in business). We have a full den in the back with two recliners along the big back window, a couch with a pull out bed on one side and the entertainment center on the opposite side.
We take our grandson pretty much all the time with us and at bedtime we have to pull the bed out for him and we cannot enjoy our recliners and TV as the bed takes up the space. This is why I would like a loft bed built above the couch. This way, we can utilize the chairs and the couch if need be.
He has been looking at units at RV places to see how they mount their bunkbeds or loftbeds. He just is afraid to screw brackets into the walls of the slide that the bed rests on. This is why we were thinking of a freestanding loft bed. We have even looked into removing the couch and adding a futon bunkbed but they are just a bit to big for our space.
Just thought I would pick your brains to see if anyone has done this type of modification. Sorry this is sooooo long.

Jayco has one in the Eagle 5th line. They call it the Eagle's Nest. I saw it online and fell in love with it. I've been teasing my wife ever since that I was gonna buy it. It's ironic you post looking for one.
