I am keeping my 2003 dodge ram 2500 hemi as i love her like a family member..lol. I only tow in the summer months and love the dodge ram srt 10 quad cab for its looks and performance, after reading they tow 7500lbs and use the same tranny as the 2500 and 3500 diesels. I am considering getting one as my next truck and was wondering if anyone has one for towing or knows of someone who does, thanks Rob.

Well the SRT 10 has plenty of power for sure. It likely has more power than your HEMI in your 2500. However the biggest difference in the 1500 and the 1500SRT 10 is in the suspension. Just like your 2500 has a stiffer suspension than a 1500 (mainly for towing). The SRT 10 suspension is more like a sports car than a truck. The SRT will corner much like a sports car, and its wheel spin will likely be very little. But the springs, shocks, bearings, ETC. will likely be very weak for towing.

I am comparing this analogy to the Jeep Grand Cherokee VS the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT 8. The regular Grand can tow quite a bit. The SRT 8 -- Well Jeep recommends no towing at all, but says it can tow a (I think 3500 lbs) which is nothing campared to the regular Grand.

The SRT 10 does not use the same trans as the Diesel truck which uses either an NV5600 or on later models, the lighter G56. SRT's use the T56 which is not nearly as heavy built as any of the HD truck trans but has better ratio's and easier shifting for performance driving.

Allpar.com shows;
"The automatic transmission is the 48RE gearbox, adapted from a diesel engine because it could handle huge amounts of torque. A heavy-duty torque converter, custom transmission calibration, and two-piece drive shaft were chosen for powertrain integrity and performance. The axle gear ratio is 4.56:1 to improve launch feel, low-end acceleration, and towing capability (up to 7,500 pounds)."

The V10 with 500 hp/525 torque requires premium gas.

SRT 10s have a huge problem keeping clutches in them just as a driver,try towing and you better have a real good double disk in it.Its a performance truck for sure,just not sure if towing is what it would like or what it was meant for,JMO

The SRT 10 Quad Cabs were only offered with the Automatic (48RE) the regular cab SRT 10 came with the 6 speed manual. I think the quad cab had a tow rating of 5500lbs? not sure!

Also I bet the lower tow rating has to do with the tires and rims the SRT runs. That rating is about the same as the Ram QC SWB with the 20" wheel package.
