We are hauling our travel trailer from Saskatchewan to Toronto, On. Our stop will be in Kenora, Ont. We would like to drive for approx. 8-10 hrs. Does anyone have any ideas for stops along the way for camping overnight? Any advice or suggestions would be truly appreciated. We are driving our son to school in Toronto and are quite nervous about the trip!!!
Thanks in advance!

Cannot help you with on the route stops but when you get to Toronto there are very few campgrounds/RV parks around. I would recommend Milton Heights Campground in the small town of Milton just west of Toronto. Nicely kept grounds and full hookups. There is also a commuter train into Toronto from Milton and could be very handly depending on what school your son is attending.

Hi,
If you have passports you can save time and money by driving through USA, and returning to Canada at Sault Saint Marie. The hills are not nearly as big. It also saves about 200 kilometers in distance.
Moose Jaw to Minot then straight east along highway #2
2,544 km, 30 hours Trans-Canada Hwy/ON-17

When we take our trips to Saskatoon from our location 45 min. north of Toronto, it generally takes us 4 days, almost 3 just to get to Manitoba border. You will not make as good time in Ontario as you will in the Prairies, but the scenery is worth the drive. Lots of hills, rock cuts forest. Fuel up in Kenora and then every gas station you see. From Kenora to S.S.Marie there is general only one gas station per town (except Thunder Bay) and they a probably 100 km apart.
Whats your destination in Toronto, it may depend on where you want to stay. There are choices north, west or east that are in commuting distance.

Do you expect to make kenora on your first day driving ?
How important is camping as opposed to dry camping at truck stops ?
I read the previous comments about taking USA route, it is 160 km shorter, any time you save will be eaten up by the time wasted at the border crossing, money savings is minimal as well,, for me it saves about 200 bones..and if you happen to get routed around construction your onto toll highways...
One bit of advice... About 15 minutes before kenora you will see a shell gas station on your left, stop there for fuel and you will have no problems taking the kenora bypass.
When we go east we leave in the evening, we get to dryden ont and sleep with the trucks at the husky station, or, if your up to it, make for a pull out about 45 minuts down the highway from Dryden, it's on a little lake and it's where we stop for breakfast...the drive to thunderbay is nice, a short stop at kakabecka falls for a nap in the parking lot while everyone else enjoys the falls and your on the road...
We pull hard and get to goulet river about 10 minutes west of sault set Marie and we stay at the blueberry hill campground, they have an indoor pool and my daughter loves the place so we stay for a day or two. Don't forget to take the agawa train ride in the sault
Fom sault st Marie your An easy 10 hours to Toronto.. For us the gas stations seem to be oddly far apart at this point, we limp past Sudbury and pick up gas with very little in the tank at the petro Canada gas station on the east side of Sudbury about 10 minutes down the road...After Sudbury the gas stations seem to be within 3 hours of one another and they get closer together as you get closer to Toronto.
Enjoy your trip !
I kinda shot all that off the hip While driving into work this morning and typing at stop lights... I make this trip frequently enough that i know what is around every corner ... If you have any specific details you would like to know just let me know...

4 days from Toronto to sask is taking it easy...really easy... We drive from home to Halifax in 4 days of driving...
The op did mention they wanted to drive 10 hours a day...so I'm assuming not a lot stops en route.

My wife and I are staying at Indian Line Campground which is on Finch near Steeles right in the SE corner of Brampton, where Brampton meet Mississisauga and Toronto.
Not what you would call scenic, but has everything you need for a short stay including convenient bus and train connections, shopping, twin train tracks 500 feet away, salt water swimming pool and clean restrooms and shower house. Sewer connections and water and both 50 amp and 30 amp hookups are available. We've been here a month or so and are surviving. Leaving on the 18th of Sept to do the reverse of what you are doing en route to Chilliwack via Regina, Calgary.
Did I mention it has pretty high prices too? But about the going price in GTA. It is part of the Toronto Regional Conservation Authority and can be googled.
Watch everything in the GTA for low hanging branches. We checked out several places and could not get in them for low hanging branches and are pulling a 41 foot 5th wheel. This definitely is not "Give me 40 acres and I can turn this rig around" country.
If you are trying to do a speedy trip, I think the shortest and fasted roads are actually south through Chicago and over to Detroit and up the 401. Yo might try googling it and/or map questing it. The problem is Chicago. That is nasty and they have a bunch of toll roads but they are not a bad price. You can fill up with the cheapest fuel in the country at the Ambassador Bridge on the Detroit end of the Bridge.
