In Snohomish County, WA reg. unleaded is in the $3.55 range per gallon right now. Curious: for an upcoming trip from here to Jasper what will I be paying per gallon (calculated from liters) on average in BC and AB? I can never figure costs from gallons to liters and vice-versa.

Hi,

BC has a 15 cent per liter surcharge. In Radium Hotsprings it was 1.319 which equates to 4.99 per US gallon.

Banff was 1.159 which equates to $4.39.

To convert to US gallons multiply the price per liter by 3.79.

Alberta is cheaper than BC. The cheapest I got diesel was 1.08 and that was in Alberta while the most I paid was 1.31 in Eastern BC.

Price per liter X 3.78 gives you price per US gallon.

Thanks, pianotuna. Having this formula helps me alot. Friends try to convince me that gas prices are comparable north of the border and I keep saying, "I don't think so." This confirms it.

Conversely, calculating gallons to liters would be "price per gallon divided by $3.79".

Much appreciated. I think I've got it.

Thanks.

Hi,

There is also the exchange rate. The Canadian dollar is a bit less than par these days, so that helps a bit with the price difference.

It's worth it - that's a spectacularly beautiful area and a wonderful drive.
