I live in the los Angeles area & have a week or so to take off & make a nice trip out of it with the wife & dog.

We were thinking about visiting my mom in the Tucson Az. area, but are not locked 100% on this.

What I was considering was the Grand Canyon & then the petrified forest & meteor crater & stuff like that, Might be too cold though?
I dont wanna drive in the snow, I never have in my life, I prefer not to learn with a camper & new to me truck.

But how many places such as the ones I listed ( for example ) deal with us bringing our 4 legged children?
I realize a lot of places will not allow dogs.

I assume most campgrounds do, So the issue is more I suppose to what sorta of site seeing places can we visit that will welcome our dog with us as we explore the sites?

We haven't been in that area, but....

Many of the National Parks are not very dog friendly (i.e., keep on paved roads, not on most trails), but check each park's website to see.

Some of the resources that I use to find places include dogfriendly and bringfido. There are also places to search for dog parks such as ecoanimal and others.

The time we visited the Grand Canyon we stayed at the Grand Canyon Railway RV Park. We wanted to do the train ride to the canyon and were worried about leaving our dog for that long. The park offers a "Pet Resort" so our dog went to day doggie day care for the day. This worked out great for us and the dog.

I was hoping to find places we could take the dog with us, but thats not a bad option...
Do you remember what it cost?

Thanks.

Don't remember what we paid as it was a couple of years ago but you can go here RV Pet Resort
to see the fee schedule. That was the first and only time so far that we have used a service like that but we felt we were going to be gone way too long to leave the dog in the motorhome.

Ok so we're pretty set on the Grand Canyon, the petrified forest & meteor creator & what ever else fits in between during our trip.

Can any of you recommend camp ground that you know are right there as close as possible to these locations?

I see many, but what ones will allow my dog & be very close?
Wife told she found one but its 45 minutes away from the GC?!?!?!

I want to be in the canyon if possible.
As close & maybe even walking distance?

Your experience in the areas are appreciated.

Thanks.

Yes I understand this & there will be times where he will stay in the camper especially being Late Dec, it will be cool enough to leave in there, yet I would never do that in the heat.

Seems these places do allow dogs though, so back to my questions..
What part of the Grand Canyon you guys recommend?
