I had one wet bolt on a prior 5th wheel that wouldn't take grease at all so I removed it and found that the inner hole had not been drilled all the way into the grease channel. I drilled it out easily.

Loosen the nut some and pound the bolt back to just clear the splines. Not to far as the shackle can slip down to the threads. I used a C clamp to hold the shackles in place. Then use a crescent wrench to turn. It will immediately take grease.Remove the grease fitting and pound it back in. Install the grease fitting and grease again.
I agree that this process should work without damaging the shackles. If the bolt does feel loose in the shackle and the splines no longer grip, the shackle should be replaced. I have also had trouble with some of the fittings not taking grease and just removing the weight from the suspension has not always fixed the problem. Also an air grease gun does not apply more pressure to force the grease in; it's just more convenient than a hand grease gun.
All of the wet bolts have had grease before, because I can see the old grease. Ordered the new part of the tool I bought, then I will try it again. I tried to turn I believe a wetbolt the other day but I couldn't turn it. Maybe I should just take it to a spring shop.

Is the grease coming out around the zerk? I bought a set of wet bolts that came direct from Dexter. The zerks would not take grease. Bought a new Lincoln grease gun head. Zerks still wouldn't take grease. Went to parts store and bought 10 new Lincoln zerks. Problem solved. E-Mailed Dexter and told them to stop buying chineese zerks that are the wrong size to accept US made gun heads. They look ok but just don't work. A needle point attachment would get grease into the forign made zerks.
