Coming back from my first trip to Boston as a newbie RV'er pulling my first TT, I hit a horrible storm and barely managed to get into what I thought was just a gas station.
What an incredible surprise to find 10 RV sites with electric off to the the side of the lot!!
I have never seen anything like that before and to be graced with it on that night was nothing short of a miracle for me.
There was a little gate in front of it and you put money in the box and the gate opened. If only more would have something like that I think we'd all be happy to use them while traveling and bad weather strikes on the interstate! Sure did help me reduce my blood pressure that night.

I also concur that motels with RV parks in the back do exist. I've stayed at these motels at least 2 times in the recent past, one of them in GA off I-95 (can't remember the town).
The best you can do is look up motels on the Internet along the route you expect to take and call some of them. If they don't have RV spaces they may know of one nearby that does. Possibly a call to the chamber of commerce in towns along your expected route may be helpful.
Prior to traveling I look up RV parks on the Internet that are located along the route I'll be taking so I'll always have the option of pulling off the road if bad weather appears imminent, or if I'm just tired. I use these websites:

Stayed at one in NY, one in Kingsland, GA, KiKi RV Park, one in Canton, TX.
Motels in front, RV parks to the side or in back. One in Ocala, FL and one in GA on I-75 south of Cordele. No listing that I know of, just usually find them in the camp books.

We have quite a few in the middle part of the country, a way for a motel to accommodate work crews, some with RVs and some needing rooms. Uncommon for chains and franchises, mostly connected with privately owned motels and inns.
There is no special listing for the category, they will be usually in the RV park listings, you usually won't know that RV park is on the same property as a motel until you show up.
There are also a lot of little RV parks operated by owners of gas stations and convenience stores. Don't look for a list of "gas station with RV parking" because it will simply be listed separately as a RV park.

South of the Border SC/NC has a campground and motel. I saw a show on the Travel Channel and the campground looked pretty nice and cheap.

I stayed in one in Pratt, KS. I believe it was behind the Evergreen Motel on the West side of town. Good experience.

We have been offered 120v from an parking lot outlet if paying for a room.
If one does long road trips with kids and with hotels with free everything priced in line with RV parks in some areas one will find motel rooms are good for some down time and to do the laundry.

I use to follow the NAVELEX work teams in my OFF-ROAD POPUP back in my working days and where ever they stayed at hotels I usually stayed if there wasn't any good camp ground close by. I managed to get close to a maintenance 120VAC receptacle outside the building just about everytime... Plugged my POPUP into the 15A/20A outside receptacle...
My Posts are IMHO based on my experiences - PM me

Quote: I hope Shell builds more and they put that sorry excuse for an RV friendly gas station Flying J out of business!!
Flying J's problem is the Pilot Travel Center, takeover.....They are not even trucker friendly, either! They want us to buy their overpriced fuel, their overpriced bologna sandwich (Subway), and then get the Hell off their property, PRONTO!!
