Speaking for Good Sam Club Rallies, their purpose is not to necessarily be profitable, but to provide our members with such a great experience that they will continue to participate in our Club, and of course, provide an opportunity for our partners and vendors to sell products and services to the Rally guests. When you look at what we provide in terms of entertainment (i.e. Reba McEntire will just be one of our shows at the Daytona Rally in November), the venues we use (Daytona International Speedway, Kentucky Expo Center, etc.)providing temporary electric hookups, the seminar speakers, etc., the Rallies are definitely not a profitable business venture! They support our members and help to build our relationships with them.
Thank you Sue for clarifying for everyone the real purpose of these types of rallies....they are primarily a way for businesses (i.e., Camping World, Manufacturers, etc.) to show their appreciation for their customers!!
Although they are definitely not money makers, they do promote great customer relations....and in many cases, like Heartland, help to keep their customers coming back, sometimes two and three times!!

I thought they were primarily a social and educational event!

One big expense at some of these rallies is providing electric hookups. Many of the facilities don't have enough electric hookups for the number of RVs. I have read that at some venues they have to rent huge diesel generators to supply power. Electricians and wire to run power to all the campers are not cheap either.
They held an FMCA rally locally here about 4 years ago. I know the campground at the facility has only a few 30 amp receptacles and not sure they have any 50 amp receptacles. Most sites are still 20 amp. That facility may not have required generators, but it would have required lots of temporary wiring.

OK, so rally's are sales events. That still does not explain why the cost is 100 per day.
I would love to see the displays and avail myself of the factory repairs. Our Brake Buddy and Blue Ox need serviced. I would also love an expert weight of our coach.
3 days on a fairgrounds sighting next to another RV 4 feet away does not justify 3/500 plus the expense to get there.
