OK I have my new camper and I have had my Honda for a couple of years (never used) and I want to run my AC with it. I started the Honda up and plugged it in. I had the generator on ECO. When I started the AC (around 90*+) the generator stumbled briefly and then came up to speed, the AC compressor kind of groaned for just a brief moment than when the generator kicked up the AC took right off. I then shut off the AC and just turned the fan on and the generator never even sped up at all to run the fan. Then I turned on the compressor and the generator did the same thing as above. While the generator I shut the ECO off with th AC running and the generator picked up speed so this tells me that when the AC is on I not drawing the max amp on it yet as it is not calling for max power.

Now since I went through all of that does everybody else run their Hondas with the ECO on and just wait for that fraction of a second for the generator to come up to speed? Or do you shut off the ECO when you are using the AC and run the Honda at full power? There was not any problem with it running the AC with, just for a split second startup. Would a hard start capacitor help this and is this what most do? It is a Dometic 11,000 BTU AC as that is what NL installs.

If I remember right my built in Onan on my AF did a little stumble when I first turned the AC on in it also.

Thanks

My AF Onan revs up when I turn the AC on, but I wouldnt call it a stumble.
But then the Onan is 2500 and your Honda is only 2000.

Butch 50. My Honda does the same thing. It runs rather slowly and when the compressor kicks in, it bogs( for the lack fo a better word). Then the microwave beeps and the a/c comes on. does it every time the compressor cycles on.

Have had theHonda for 1 1/2 years and it does this everytime. I run it in eco mode to save gas. Do not know if this will cause a problem with the a/c in the future or not.

I have operated my AC with my 2000 Honda but in order to start it I have to start the fan first then kick on the compressor. It will reset if I hit both of them at once or if anything else is using power (fridge, how water heater, for example) at the same time.

I never actually RUN my AC because it IS running very close to maximum and Honda recommends only brief use under full load and the gen is too important to my camping style and was never intended to operate the AC. During weather hot enough to need an AC I camp at high altitude where it's cool.

If I turn mine and have the compressor at the same time other than the little stumble it runs fine and no problem without the breakers tripping. I have the newer 11,000 BTU and it is supposed to be an efficeint one. It take less than 10 amps to run it so I know when it starts it draws more but the generator is rated to run at 2000W or 16.6 amps for surge and 1600W or 13.3 amps so the AC should not overload the AC. I'm also sure you are probably running a 13,500 BTU and if it is a few years old it draws more power to run. Sometimes I can't always go to higher elevations because what we might want to do is where it is warmer.

If I need to I can also put oil and gas in my Yamaha 3000iSEB. It is new and I have never even put oil in it yet. I bought it at a dealer on a great sale and couldn't walk away from it. So I have an another avenue to go if the 2000i is not enough.

Other posters, Thanks that was what I was looking for. So it appears that mine is doing the same thing as everybody elses does.

Thanks for all of the responses.

Mine does he exact same thing when in ECO mode. Microwave beeps when the compressor kicks in.

I have the Honda 2000, and the Polar Cub 9200 A/C. I run my Honda in ECO mode. My Polar Cub control allows me to turn it to fan only when I initially start the A/C. When the fan has started, I turn the control to the A/C mode. At that time, the Honda RPM increases, to run the compressor in the A/C. It has never been an issue.

I am guessing on the microwave, but I think the beep is an alarm telling you it does not sufficient voltage to operate. Only a guess on my part. My microwave does not beep under those conditions.

I have two Honda 2000, one is the companion I connect the two and have no problems running most things at the same times. In real hot weather one 2000 sometimes does not handle the AC compressor.
