There's a guy a couple of sites away from me that's been splitting kindling wood by hammering on the back of a hatchet for about 45 minutes now. The sound is getting a little tiring. It's only 7pm, not quiet time yet. Would I be wrong to suggest they he stop? He must have enough to last a month by now.

If he has the hatchet in his hands I would say now is not a good time.

Yes you would be out of line to ask him to stop but you COULD go down and talk to him. He would PROBABLY stop while you converse and once you warm up to each other might suggest that the noise is pretty piercing (without demanding he stop doing what he has every right to do). Might get what you want without a confrontation.
Good luck / Skip

My PERSONAL annoyance is the guy who makes ten or fifteen trips to his vehicle and feels it's necessary to honk the horn (to assure it's locked) after each trip. Camped next to a guy with two teenage kids helping him unload ??? and that horn must have honked (double honk) fifteen or twenty times in a half hour. Guess they were afraid someone would break into their vehicle while they were 10 feet away from it setting up their tent.

I'll second that motion, especially if he's drinking beer while splitting the wood.
Is anyone else complaining?

to me until it is quiet time on the cgs policies I wouldn't say anything.
might be a bit annoying to you but it isn't quiet time yet.

we just can't tell people to stop and say every annoying sound or action that isn't really dangerous to us shouldn't happen.

leave the guy to his work.

Good one!

To the OP ~ Wow, if the just the sound of splitting wood bothers you maybe you need to find another hobby other than camping!

Let's see, a barking dog for 45 minutes straight, kids screaming at the top of their lungs,......or the sound of splitting wood? I'll take Paul Bunyan parked next to me any day!

LMAO!! That's the most helpful reply I've seen in a long time. How do you give "rep" points on this forum :-)

One word answer....Yes!!

If you have not heard people chopping/splitting wood before you must spend most of your time camping in a parking lot.

Really not sure what the big deal is???

Maybe I'm too considerate, it's not something I would do.
