If he is hitting a hatchet with a hammer sooner or later he will stop.

They are not designed to be hammered on that way... Eventually it will break, hopefully without damage to him or anyone else nearby.

A proper wedge *IS* Designed to be hammered on, And I occasionally do hammer on them, with an 8 pound hammer. Work great.

My Log Splitter axe is also designed both to hammer and be hammered on, But 1, it's in the 8 pound range (not sure might be 12) and 2, it's no hatchet!!!.

I also rarely swing it 10 times on any given day.. (That's enough for the night and tomorrow's wood pile will wait till tomorrow).

grab a arm load of wood, go over and explain that you have a headache and please just take your wood and stop hammering.

If he's hitting the striking face of the hatchet with the striking face of a hammer..... you might try somehow introducing in polite conversation the concept of 'safety glasses'. Two hardened steel surfaces hitting each other repeatedly is a fairly good recipe for spalling... throwing sharp little chips off in random directions at bullet-like velocities. Maybe he'll get nervous.....

Don't worry,if he keeps hitting an ax or hatchet with a hammer, the ambulance should be coming soon,it will get a little noisey until they load him up to take him to the ER to take the steel splinters from his head, but it will be real quiet after that....

Sounds to me like you need to find a secluded place to boondock so others won't bother you.

If this is him on the campground security camera...I'd say just forget about it!

How about putting in some earphones, listening to some really good music (your choice)and siting in an easy chair and WATCH him cut wood??? It might be humorous or it may put you to sleep!!

Enjoy yourself!

Also,, asking to borrow some of his wood was really funny!!!

Maybe that's HIS relaxation!! Wouldn't want to see him mad!!

Owls are talking to each other across the campground now, all else is forgotten.
