After ten years or so we got tell sale dark trailswshere the water line is and where the water runs down the insde of the bowl.

Tried CLR, no joy.

so this eve went to the barn and brought out the big guns, phosphoric acid, still no joy.

Is there something out there that will actually take the stains off the porcelin?

Try CLR again... but it has to be sprayed on a dry bowl. If you apply it with a rag, it will not work. Spray, and wait.

Try a toilet bowl cleaner called "The Works", cheap and really does work.

Our local water is high in mineral content and will stain the bowl. Mine at home is fine so far, but at the hotel I work at, they use a pumice stone and elbow grease. Seems to work according to the hotel manager. I've seen pumice stones at Walmart and some grocery stores in the cleaning aisle.

Try the scotch brite scrub pads...they make different grades of coarseness.

Check Wal-Mart, perhaps a big box store and find some Wink. Wal-MArt does not always have it so we stock up when they do. Brown Bottle. Empty as much water as you can and squirt it around the bowl. Stains disappear. All the other stuff is just fluff. If you can't find it, try a pool place and get some Muriatic acid. Same stuff.

Pumice will scratch the porcelain and make things worse.
