What has been your experience with this fuel additive in terms of usage per gal? Has it affected the performance of your MH engine in any way?
Thanks

Slight correction, DEF is NOT, repeat NOT a fuel additive. Put it in your fuel tank and you may be buying a new engine!
It is put in a separate tank and injected downstream of the engine.

Please tell us you didn't. DEF is not a fuel additive and goes in it's own seperate tank. It is a seperate system on newer diesel engine systems that treats the exhaust downstream of the engine. If your engine system doesn't have this system you do not add DEF.

That would be some nasty stuff in a fuel tank.

My 2011 Volve class 8 truck uses it,I can go about 3500 miles on a tank of 15 gals or so. It makes the exhaust super clean,no more black trailers and has been used in Europe for many years.
I get 6.5 mpg loaded on a monthly average hauling up to 80,000 at 65 mph with a 13 Litre engine. It is quite trouble free.

I believe the new diesels that require DEF also have a Particulate Filter that will plug up if you do not run the DEF. If they plug up the engine will not run.

My Duramax diesel, 397 HP and 762 ft. Lbs of torque uses roughly a gallon of DEF per thousand miles while towing our 5th wheel. The truck builder claims a 15% increase in fuel mileage and I believe it is true. Just returned from a 9,000 mile trip and the inside of the exhaust pipe still is clean and looks like new. No more diesel smoke or smell. I was apprehensive about the DEF when I first bought the truck but am now. A believer in the stuff. The particulate filter can clog up, just as can a catalytic filter on a car, but not too likely from what I hear. The DEF fluid costs approx. $5 a gallon

I've had a lot of Low Quality Diesel Exhaust Fluid lites on my 2011 2500 Chevy along with the SES lite. GM just drained my DEF tank and put in 3 gallons of theirs although all the DEF is supposed to be made to same specs required. Who knows? Talked to an engineer from a manufacturer and the first thing he said was "I'll bet you have a GM truck". Said that some of them didn't like ANY of the DEFS made. Go figure. They also replaced three NOX sensors.

We had a 2008 40' Winnebago Tour, 400HP, NO DEF. We then switched to an Entegra 42, tag, with a 450 HP. Both Cummins. The Entegra tag is approx. 10,000 lbs heavier and has better torque and ecomony. Roughly 10+%. We have ordered another Entegra 44' with the same power plant. I had heard stories and claims about the DEF motors and believe the posities ones. DEF is available in bulk at more truck stops and should not be considered a drawback in any way.
