Did the warranty change for the '06 and newer years? I know for a fact that my '05 has an unlimited time/100k mile warranty. The rest of the drivetrain was a 70k. So me being at 81k I still have engine coverage.

It is hard to tell sometimes because everything is not always in writing. The week before I purchased my truck Dodge announced their 100,000 mile warranty on the entire drive train. It was the end of the 2007 model year, but as long as a person took delivery after the announcement date, they were covered.

Unfortunately for me, it turns out that was only for gasoline engines, not diesel. My complete drive train warranty was still 3 years and 36,000 miles. Even the dealer did not pick up on the difference when the announcement was first made.

Generally speaking, my dealer has been pretty fair with me. I developed a rear end seal leak just after the 36,000 mile point. The dealer made the repair under warranty because he said they should have caught that when I was recently in for an oil change and the truck had not quite yet reached the 36,000 cutoff.

They really should not care if they are reimbursed for their costs by Dodge.

Last I heard the 05' had the 100k warranty. The 06' did not. Per Chrysler customer survey indicated the average buyer did not consider it a value item. The wAter pump is so easy I carry a spare in the camper. Loosen and partially remove serpentine belt. Remove two bolts for water pump. That's it. $50 at Napa.

WAIT! I was wrong. Thank to restlesswind, I looked yet again. While that is an oily liquid dripping off the bolt heads on the front edge of the oil pan, the fluid is not oil. I put a pie pan under the engine and let it run. It is, in fact, anti freeze, with a little engine grime mixed in.

So now I probably need to get the water pump done instead. It is hard to hear with a diesel, but I did detect a strange noise that sounds like a water pump on the way out.

Thanks for the help and words of encouragement.

I'll post back what the dealer tells me.

Could be the water pump, never know. I have an 06 and 07 in my driveway, and I had the same problem with both. Look at the where the heater core lines enter the firewall. One of the lines has a three inch hose (versus the solid line) with old fashioned hose clamps on it. Look real close, you will see what I mean. The hose clamps need to be tightened. It is right above the bell housing and pan. You could try any cummins forum on line, this problem has been beat to death. Chrysler fixed this known flaw sometime in 2008,I think. Replacement hose and the latest and greatest clamps (fuel injection pinch clamps) are about $21 bucks.

No all Ram's equipped with the Cummins came with a 10 year or 100,000 mile warranty. Unless you bought some kind of other coverage.

Might as well learn how to change them yourself $50, they go about every 70k-80k from what I've heard.

camping man - The dealer said if it was what I said it was, then there would be no cost. I am taking it in 7:15 tomorrow. But I will size up the job. It sounds like the return hose from the radiator does no connect to the water pump. Heck, I haven't changed a water pump since my 1975 Malibu. Those older 350 Chevy engines used to eat water pumps and fan clutches like candy.

I don't know if this helps but on my last oil change they noticed a tranny fluid leak in the front seal,i asked if my warranty covered it and was told that i was a week out of warranty but at that time the salesman was standing there with a quote on an 2013 looking rather nervously at the manager so they offered to do the repair gratis! The trade in offer they made on my truck was a complete insult so i got the repair and went along my way.

My 2007 Dodge/Cummins had an oil leak up front since brand new which several dealerships couldn't correct. A year or so later I finally found a dealership (in Florida) which nailed the problem. It was found that the factory had installed the front seal (crankshaft) backwards! They fixed it and it's been fine since...
