I just made a 3800 mile trip from Ar. to Penn and W.Va. and my 2004 Ford SD 6.0 with camper got 14.5 as a overall average. There was over a 1000miles of mt. travel. With the camper off i get about the same oddly enough....

Normal unloaded driving, which I do very little, around 18 - 19 mpg.

With the camper, 15 mpg.

And that's no lie.

On a trip to Alaska from Maryland and return we averaged 11.5 mpg for the entire trip. the rig was weighed when loaded setting off at a little under 14,000 lbs. See our signature below.

Since them we have been practicing some methods to increase our mileage. If we keep our RPM's at or below 2000 RPM we have been able to increase to 14.5 mpg on a cosistant basis, we slow as we climb, let the speed build going down hill, and take off slowly. We have discovered alot of other diesel powered vehicles doing the same.

Gary Gadget,
I'm just trying to get a census of what truck might get better fuel economy, so when I go to trade off my truck I might be able to save a few extra dollar of fuel. Who couldn't use a little extra cash. A Dollar Saved is a Dollar Earned. Thanks Keep on T/C'en.

I'll play.

2012 Ford 6.7l, cc, lb, drw with a Lance 880 (~3600 lbs ready to camp)

Empty: around 20 mpg at 55 mph, around 17 mpg at 75 mph

Camper on: around 13 mpg at 75 mph, 16 mpg at 60 mpg, around 18 at 55 drafting a semi

Towing a 4000 lbs ski boat and truck loaded: 15.6 mpg at 59 mph.

Terrain is a California mix, flat and hilly (1000 ft ish) with a few mountains.

Averaged about 15 mpg in a San Jose (0 ish) to Tahoe (6000 feet ish) and back with the camper on and fully loaded. Speed was 62 ish.

I have wondered about the times I really get exceptional fuel mileage if it is the fuel quality.

I do use CRC Diesel Fuel Supplement, but there are times that some fuel just seems to provide better fuel mileage.

I also use a K&N filter that was just recently cleaned and oiled.

I laugh all the way to the bank with the fuel mileage of my Cummins.
