one thing I was told about stabil is not to use a lot of it in Honda engines. Honda's don't like a lot of stabil in their gas.

I remember the old thinking was that you always wanted to have gas in the carb that way the gaskets wouldn't dry out, crack, or shrink. Now with the crappy fuel, if you leave it in too long it spoils and clogs everything up.

Similar here. I remember the old item of keeping at least some gas in the tank and carb bowl. However, those were the days before E-10 where the gas would keep for much longer and keep seals wet. These days, the junk that tends to be sold goes bad quickly without good stabilizer in it. (I end up using a little more than the directions of Sta-Bil recommend just to be safe.)

Ironically while at Home Depot, I saw 1 liter metal cans of unleaded gasoline, no booze mixed in, and with stabilizer. They were $5 or so each. I personally think that a hardware place would make a mint selling stabilized fuel with no ethanol in it for about 1.5 to twice the going gasoline price. Just because it would ensure that varnish is kept to a minimum.

I used to frequent a chainsaw forum quite a bit. Those guys would run 100LL avgas or non-ethanol marine gas in their saws.

Just this evening, I was having trouble with my EU2000i (5 years old) turning off when I closed the choke. I popped on the Internet and found these threads - http://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/24911086.cfm and http://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/26281181.cfm - I drained the carb and emptied the tank about 3/4 of the way and added 12 capfuls of Seafoam. I let it run with the choke open until I could hear a change in the engine, then I closed the choke and hoped it would stay running. Sure enough, it has been going now for about 3 hours powering the TV/fridge/small space heater and charging the battery I have a 6 gallon marine tank hooked up to it, so I will top it off before we head to bed and it will run all night. We keep the propane furnace set to 60ยบ in case the generator shuts off.

i personally guarantee you will have no carb related issues if you follow the following procedure though it is some what complicated:

1.EVERY thirty days run the 2000 FULL THROTTLE (not econo mode) under load(AC or electric heater) for 1 hour. DO THIS WITHOUT FAIL!!!!!!!!

2.put just enough gas in the tank to run for i hour. when it runs out of gas you will know it is time to put up the 2000 till next month.

you now have a trouble free gen set that is reliable, dependable and ready for use at a moments notice. you may or may not have other issues from time to time but you will not have carb issues.

I don't drain the carb anymore on my EU2000, I use fuel stabilizer, either Stabil or Seafoam and have had no problems. I used mine about 4-6 times a year and if not that often, I start it up at home and run it a while. I used to drain the carb but don't see the need to do it anymore if you use a fuel stabilizer.

Draining the carb is not a bad practice, you just have to decide if it's necessary for your situation.

My EU2000 is seven years old and prior to that I had a 1000 for 3 years. My procedure has been the same for both. I use it the summer on our dry camping trip, maybe 20 hours of use. In the fall I turn it upside down and drain the fuel. I add Seaform and fresh gas and run it to warm the engine and then change the oil. Then it is stored in my garage until the following year. I do not drain the carb. In all these years I have not had any problems with it starting or running. Our gas here is 10% ehtanol. I love my Honda!
