I have a 2004 Layton Lakeview TT with a 6 ft slide. I purchase it in January this year and everything has been great so far. The other day I went out to get something out of the trailer and the slide wouldn't open. When I hit the switch, you could hear the rat-a-tat-tat like you normally hear when you open it up all the way or close it all the way. I was was like the gear was slipping. After operating the switch back and forth a couple of times, it finally caught and opened up. It hasn't done it since. Does anyone have an idea why this happened? Do I need to be overly concerned about it? Would that be a problem with the motor or the gear box? Am I supposed to lubricate the gearbox?

Inquiring minds want to know. Ok, maybe it's just my inquiring mind.

Thanks in advanced.

LCI (Lippert Components, INC) makes slideout systems, one of the biggest companys that do so.

They say that you have to have a fully charged battery for the slideout to work properly.

Also, the most common issues are caused by dirty or corroded electrical contacts at the battery, motor and switches...or bad switches. Tighten up everything, clean the contacts and make sure the battery is fully charged.
