A few days ago DW went to wash clothes, and I stayed and ran vaccuum. She wanted black tank drained, wo did that, and closed valve. I also had closed gray tank valve. Then I turned black tank flush, which is the way I've done since 2003. Decided to go up to wash machine area and help DW. Walked in and whe again ask about balck tank. Immediately for jeep keys and headed back as fast as I could in RV park (many children) I was praying all the way back. Water had been running 15 to 20 minutes. I immediately pulled black tank valve. It had a lot of pressure behind it, which I still don't understand. Checked everywhere to see if I ran any black tank stuff in trailer or on top. I closed black tank when it had drained, then opened gray valve. That is when I got shocked. A lot of water came out of gray tank and it should not have had any. Any Idea why I didn't have black stuff all over the place.

No idea but bet you are counting your blessings. I wasn't as lucky as you were. I ran mine over many years ago and it was not a pleasant experience. Happy camping,

No, I have no idea why you weren't flooded with poop.
Anyway, you have been running the flusher with the valve closed?? Mine clearly says to never do that, presumably because it builds up pressure as you discovered.

It is possible that both the black and gray tanks vent in a common vent stack. The black water flowed up the vent and back down the gray tank vent line. That would fill both tanks. Tanks overfilled with water have a lot of pressure behind them, the pressure you felt was probably caused by the weight and height of the water column. If this is what happened, you are very lucky, otherwise all that water in the gray tank would have been pumped out the roof vent and all over the top of your rig.

The pressure just comes from the depth of the water. I think the term is hydraulic head.
Since the grey water tank did not contain black water, it almost sounds like there is a rinse nozzle in the grey tank as well. No other explanation I can think of.
Once upon a time I would close the black water valve with the rinse nozzles going, in an attempt to clean the sensors. I was distracted two different times and came close to the overflow point. I just don't do that anymore.

I think westernrvparkowner got it right. The common vent line would be the connecting point between the two tanks. You were fortunate that the grey tank didn't fill up as well, or you could have had major flooding when the shower pan backed up and overflowed inside.

There is a thread in one of the forums I visit about a cobined black/tray tank vent. If I were doing it this is how I'd do it. I would run both lines up near the roof, then use elbows and a "T" to connect them to a single line through the roof.
Appears that is how your RV was plumbed
When the black tank filled water went up the roof vent pipe and came back down inside the gray tank, Saving your bacon.
Warning. The vent pipe is SMALLER than the vent, if they had not been combined that excess CONTAMINATED water would have run down inside your walls, not out the roof al-la Robin Williams in RV.

lucky to say the least. you might say you are or have been blessed (but not for having a great memory) since you didn't have a major disaster in the TT.

westernrvparkowner gives an excellant Idea of what happened. I would like to see a diagram of the Cameo so I would know how things are put together. Thanks for the information. As I said I prayed all the way back to the RV. God answered that prayer. Thanks again for the help.
