So I went to a family reunion this weekend and it was rediculoisly hot out so I turned the AC on and just let it run, after several hrs I noticed the AC wasnt blowing real hard at all and it was getting warmer and warmer. I went outside and looked up at the unit and it appeared that one of the lines was iced over. I shut the unit off for the night and today fired it up and it was blowing nice cold air again. Anyone know what the problem was?

Was the blower on high all of the time? How long until it iced over today?

Our first TT walk through, mechanic told us never to turn AC on high. Said it would run continuously and would ice up. Was told to leave it on auto, so it would kick on and off. We've done that with all 3 TT's and never had an icing problem.

Wanted to make sure what I had told you was as I remembered. Dug out the old video that I had recorded on the walk through. Our TT was a Jayco, don't suppose yours looks much different.

Diagram of unit controls

Cool High
Fan Auto This is the one recommended
Off Low auto high or low.
Heat
On Low Can use the on,with high or low but more
High likely to get a freeze up.

ACs compressors have one speed ON..fans have two speeds low & high.
In auto fan will shut off when AC compressor turns off.
In manual on high or low, fan will run continuously even when AC compressor turns off which is OK.

OP....running your fan in low can cause icing due to low air flow.
A dirty air filter can cause icing due to low air flow
A dirty evap coil can cause icing due to low air flow.

Clean the evap coil, drip pan & drain holes, clean air filter 7 run fan in manual on high speed.
Also check to see if you have a probe that should be stuck in between fins on evap coil....should shut down compressor when evap coil begins to ice up...then compressor will restart when ice melts vs continuing to run and build up more ice.

In high humidity the AC will ice up. It needs to cycle on and off to keep the air flowing. Most of the time it will do this however if taking showers, cooking ect it will raise the humidity so even when you have the AC on you need to use vent fans in the kitchen and bath. We have had that problem many times in our years of travels. Most often from high outside humidity as we are good about using vent fans. Our old Airstream and our boats did that. You have to just be sure to cycle them over to just fan once in a while if you hear the compressor running full time and the cool air output drops. Running the fan will defrost it and put out some cool air from the ice but when it starts to warm turn it back.

I know that when my kids shut all the vents in the kitchen area to get more air back to the bunks, the ac will ice over and the fan will not pull air form the vents. I have to turn the ac off, open the vents and just run the fan to melt the ice and life is good again.
