I've read on another forum numerous stories of the loose end of ratchet straps getting sucked in between the bed and cab. None of them ended well, nor cheap.

Has anybody thought of the damage that could be done to a vehicle following you when you do not secure items in your truck bed? Not funny. Seen it done on the interstate last year.

Yep - responded to several (injury) medical emergencies on the 405 (CA) fwy over a lot of years due to accidental "flying debris" from vehicles - including an "in use" (*was* on the vehicle) wheel and tire from a Honda Accord.

If you see a pickup with "stuff" in the bed (whether towing or not), following along behind it, is *not* a good idea.

Do *you* trust *their* tie-down plan?..

And, of course, sometimes you can't see what's in the bed,
soooooooo - be ready to utilize Don's ID . . .

On our last trip the left side bed rail cap came loose on the rear side of the bed. Caught me eye in the rear view mirror going down the interstate. Told the wife as soon as we get to an area with a wide shoulder I'll pull off and either fasten it down or pull it off the rest of the way. About a minute after I said that it was gone. Oops!!

As a motorcyclist, I can say I watch trucks and trailers very carefully for stuff that may fly out at me. Outside of a pair of 5' long 4x4s for changing tires on the fly, nothing ever goes in the bed of my truck when I'm pulling the trailer.

Not an issue with mine. I roll the Retrax bed cover back to the 5th Wheel hitch. So theres no air coming back down right behind the cab to suck anything out of the bed. Someone had put a empty water bottle in the bed in New Orleans. It was there the next day. 2 weeks ago on the way home from the campground everything was still in the same spot not moved any at all.
But with the retrax cover off, nothing stays in its place.
