We have a hitch mounted XC 2-bike rack that we used with our Class C. Now we have a TT. We got a bolt-on hitch adapter to put on the back bumper, so we can use the same bike rack. We have a Coachmen Catalina TT. DH is worried about this whole system tearing the bumper off. Anyone have any experience with these components? I think the rack and the adapter came from Camping World. TIA!

I looked into a rear mount bike rack when I purchased my Passport 3220 and decided against it after researching it. Although the one I was looking at held 4 bikes I did not feel comfortable with the torque that the bikes would put on the bumper of the TT.
I put our bikes inside the trailer while traveling. Always easy to do and we never have any problems.
Good luck and keep doing your research.

I would weld on a 2"receiver and not worry about it. I had the bike rack where they hang from the top, and it failed from stress. I made my new one where wheels fit in a pocket and now it is solid as a rock. I am still reminded of the earlier rack when I look where my seat dragged on the road.

Lots and lots of firsthand accounts of bike racks destroying TT bumpers can be found on almost all RV forums. The bumper just wasn't made to take the torque of bikes bouncing on a bike rack that is extended a foot or so out.
Everytime I get in the bed of our truck with the topper on and load the 4 large bikes I say to myself... There's gotta be a better way but I will never put a bike rack on the back bumper.
In our previous TT that didn't have a slide room, I just put the bikes in the TT and lashed them together with cargo straps for stability. Worked great.

We had a 2" receiver welded to the frame at the back of our previous TT, and that worked great. The bikes didn't bounce like they do if the rack is mounted to the bumper. With our current TT we have the bike rack that mounts on the tongue, above the batteries. We really like that we can always see the bikes, and it's a breeze to put the bikes on the rack.

Thank you all! I read all the suggestions and figured the easiest way to go was try to put the bikes in the TT. I was skeptical that they would fit so... We just went down there and put both bikes in with the slide in. Now, DH will install some I-bolts,(discretly)for bungees, etc. This forum is so helpful, this issue was such a worry, that we were thinking we wouldn't be able to take our bikes without installing a receiver. Thanks again!

I had one of those bolt on receivers. It started working loose earlier this year. If you have enough room between the square bumper and the back watt of the TT, you might try what I did.

Well, see my post "take the bikes, leave the rack" Ours just snapped off.. NOT the bumper, the rack itself! Needless to say, you will not see 4 bikes on my bumper anytime soon

Family-I did see your post and believe me, it made me really worry about this bumper arrangement. I told DH about what happened to you and he said that was really scary. So, your post may have saved me some grief as I was thinking of trying the bumper/adapter method. I'm so sorry that happened to you but I'm glad no one was hurt and we all learned a lesson!

We were thinking of having a hitch welded on the back of the TT to put a bike rack on but I was concerned that I could not see them and did not want to get to CG and find out that I have no bikes or rear bumper. So what I did was take some 2x4's cut them to fit btw the bed and wall of the TT then put a front wheel lock on the 2x4 and the bikes fit on the sides of the queen bed in the front of the TT. They are inside and I do not need to worry about them and it really takes no time to take the wheel off the front with the quick release and put them in the TT. They do not move around and it works for us. there was a previous post where someone did something similar with their table folded down and that gave me the idea to do it around the queen bed. It works for us at the current time. People do it all the time without issue but knowing my luck I did not want to take the chance with the bikes on the back of the TT.
