Doesn't sound good or right to me...a spare tire is pretty much useless if it doesn't have a rim.
If your sales contract says something like, "Sold as is," you might be in trouble. I'd still confront the dealer about it.

Welcome to the wonderful world of RVing/camping.

A spare tire/wheel is an option on most RV's. However, some do not even have space for a spare. This means when a tire problem occurs the driver then has to deal with ordering a tire that will be brought out by the tow truck driver who then has to make the change along side of the road.

My thought is that a previous owner put only the tire in the compartment to save weight.

If you want to leave the tire in the compartment and you think the weight of a wheel will not be too much, go ahead and purchase a wheel and have the tire mounted.

Because, Murphy' Law states that a tire problem either will occur someplace that there is no cell phone service or your size tire is not available in the area that the tow truck works.

NEW RVs often are sold without a spare. If yours is a USED purchase, the previous owner may have carried the spare TIRE ONLY to enable an EMS to come out and mount the tire on an existing wheel without carrying the extra weight.

MANY RV'ers carry an unmounted spare, especially if there is no room to put a mounted and inflated one.
of course an unmounted spare is a good thing... when you are in the middle of nowhere, it's often much easier and cheaper to find a service provider to mount the spare than it is to find one that has the tire you need in stock and at a decent price.

An unmounted spare is not as good as a mounted one, but much better than no spare.

I have called for a tire guy for many a stranded RV or Semi and having an unmounted spare in the hold puts quits to a whole line of conservation:

Can you tell me the size and load range of the tire?

Uh, where do I find that

It is printed on the side of the tire

The tire is really tore up I don't think I can read it

Try the OTHER tire on the OTHER side, should be the same size

Oh, Did not think of that radio, Hold on....

22.4 R-70 Load range D

Thank you.

DOn't need that, instead it's "Oh we have a tire just need someone to mount it on the rim"

Way easier, easier on the tire guy too since he does not need to search his warehouse for the last tire he has in stock that size. (or call his buddies/competitors trying to find one).

My "C" didn't come with a spare, but I bought a mounted spare to carry with me. If I ever needed to call for service on the road, a tire without a rim is pretty useless.

Retired and visiting as much of this beautiful country as I can.
