You may have the power but dont have too much payload. Our 5.3 tb has 1300lbs payload. What is the 4000lb number? Dry or GVW? The max i would tow with ours was 4500lbs without exceeding gvw and gcwr of the tb.

Don't have any experience with the SS. As already mentioned, your issue will be your payload. I used to tow with my 2004 EXT with the 5.3. It had lots of "towing capacity". But with a loaded trailer weighing 4200lbs, my Trailblazer's axle ratings were pretty at their limit.

If I get the TB it is to replace a V6 Chev Astro van that has givem me no problems towing the last 5 years on very busy highways. The TB is longer with a longer WB and double the HP.

The ss is still a swb tb like my 2008 5.3 dod version. Glorified soccer mom mobile getting swamped by 600lb tongue wt, 100 hitch, leaves only 500 for passengers and gear. We were at 10k combined with a pup. Pup required gear to be packed in the tb, dog, kid, dw, and zero payload available,

Yup, you have all the power in the world with the 6.0 tb ss but severe limitations to deal with. Heck i recall an issue on trailvoy regarding hitch/exhaust issues. Thinking back it was similar to the srt8 grand cherokee too! Performance SuV, not towing suv.

We've towed a Jayco 19H with a Trailblazer, overall bad idea. The TB really had no redeeming qualities over a truck (hindsight of course) The gas mileage even while not towing was worse than our Silverado. The other issue was that the vehicle wasn't really wide enough for towing...visibility was a major concern. We eventually bought McKesh mirrors which worked but even 'normal' towing mirrors don't fit the trailblazer. (I'm not going to address the ability to keep a constant speed while towing, weight issues etc). The gas mileage while I did my normal soccer mom duties was horrible (getting out of the 13 range was a problem) in the end, upgrading to a truck our mileage is better, and it tows much nicer.

I looked at the Trailblazer SS when I was researching tow vehicles last fall. The motor is awesome, but I recall lots of comments on the Traillazer forums about how the suspension and transmission aren't designed for towing.

TB suspensions are pretty soft for towing.
What transmission does it have? I smoked my Envoy's 4L60E at 62,000 miles and that was with an aux cooler added. Trashed a fuel pump (stranded on the Interstate with the TT), cat converter, and exhaust manifold (which turned into a new cylinder head) at 78,000 miles also. GM paid for the cat, I ate everything else.
And yes you're going to run out of payload pretty quickly.
I too ended up with a set of McKesh mirrors on the Envoy. There were no strap-on extensions that worked worth a darn.
The new tv is in my sig.
