Last week we had reservations for three nites at a USFS campground with electric hookups. When we got there we found that our site was out in the open without any trees, shade, privacy, or growth between us and the next sites. The CG road curved around our site about 20 feet away and had a constant flow of RVs looking for sites. That is not our style of camping as we like shade and a chance at some privacy. That nite, the next site had a party with 12-14 people, loud music, screaming and shrieking kids, and lots of loud laughing until about 11:30 pm. We decided that we would move in the morning.
The next morning I asked the hosts if we could move to one of the vacant sites IN THE SHADE. She told me we could, but we would have to pay an additional site fee and forfeit the remaining two nights on our reserved electric site. I told her that I would be happy to forfeit the DIFFERENCE we paid for the electric site, but I didn't think it was fair to charge a SECOND time. She insisted we pay her but I compared it to being in a hotel and asking to move to another room. They do NOT charge you for two rooms! She insisted, so we left for another CG, thinking that the first one didn't deserve any more money from us.
Was I unreasonable (or wrong) in my thinking? What do you say?

That doesn't make any sense to me. Was she mistaken and then later afraid to admit that she made a mistake? We have done exactly what you describe and never had an issue like that.

Those are rules put forth by the USFS not the camp host. We only enforce them.
As for the late night partying it depends on the campground rules also.
Did you bother to notify the canp host if they were breaking the rules, or just post your complaint here. Camp hosts are also required to remind anyone breaking the rules and notify their supervisor if they do not comply.

You did what I would have. Vote with my feet (or wheels) and find another campground nearby on the net and get underway.

Did you bring it up with the manager? I would definitely have brought this up to the management and requested an explanation on the double dipping.

I would have complained to the host about the noise that night. If I still wanted to move the next morning and the host wanted to charge me again, I would have paid and ask for a receipt. When I returned home I would have written to the NFS and explained what had occured and asked for an explanation and a refund.

Gotta go with the host on this one, folks. That's the foolish USFA rule that the host is following, and if the host DOESN'T follow it and gets caught, she's no longer a host!
