Well, after having my trailer for 6 years, I finally had my first blowout. The tread actually seperated first and did all the damage, then the tire blew out. I live in AZ, and it was 113 today, so not sure if that might have played into the tire failing.
Since I never had one before, how to you guys get the damage fixed? I stopped by my local RV place, and they gave me a rough estimate of $1400.00 - $2000.00. I have insurance on the trailer, so think about going that route.
The guys at discount are going to send the tire back to the manufactor and see if they can determine if it was a manufacture defect, or road hazard. Since the tread seperated first, and I was going 37mph, and only 3 blocks from the house I might add, I'm thinking defect. They are less than 1 year old. It was a Greenball brand of tire.
I'm very anal about the tire pressure and keeping them covered when not in use.
Anyone have any suggestions or advice?
Thanks!
H

I will edit this. My mistake. The trailer was six years old...not the tire.

Quote: Gotta love it....six years and the tire blows. Even if it was a Chinese tire six years of service is not bad. THEN factor in how old the tire was when he put it on. And he lives in AZ where most of the state is hotter than heck in the summer.
Of course if it was a MAXXIS tire it had to be operator error....
The OP said the tire was less than a year old. That is less than one year of service???
Did you buy the tires at Discount? If so, I'm just curious how well they take care of you.
One of my OE tires was found defective, and Tireco sent me a check that just about covered my new Maxxis. Good luck.

I bought them at Discount. They replaced the tire free of charge, but I had to pay $2.03 to transfer the warranty to the new tire. They filled out the paperwork to ship the tire back to the manufacture to see if it was a defect or what. He said that if they deem it to be a defect, they will pay for the repair to my trailer.
I turned mine in to insurance. If your tire manufacturer ends up covering the insurance will get the money back. I had a blowout in June about 10 miles after leaving the campground. My tire were 6 years old so I did not even think about having them checked out.
I have noticed recently that what I consider alot of people are having blowouts on their travel trailer. Are the tires different that the ones used on a regular trailer? I have several utility trailer ranging from a 6x10 to a 24 foot gooseneck. I have never had a tire blow. Is the construction different?
