most of the time it all depends on the type of the genny. if it is an open sided gen I would say no. back in the old days we used to put a VW muffler on them and that worked. don't know if you can attach one to these newer ones.

Open-sided, maybe a mat over it where nothing is blocked might work. Other people have made complete enclosures with noise baffles. The problem is that a lot of generators need air around them not just for intake, but cooling.

Agree. Please post the Make, Model, Age of the GenSet.
If it's already in an "enclosure" (its own boxy cabinet) and that enclosure is complete and undamaged then little you can do. If it's rattling you may be able to work on the enclosure, maybe mountings, and so on.

I see a lot of people using that pink ridgd foam board from Lowes etc at the race tracks. They make a box with it I dont know how they are cooling it....It does kill the noise on a portable generator. I guess you could build a fan into the foam board or something like that....

I don't mean to give a short answer, but the truth is.... Not easily or cheaply. Save your money and buy a quiet one.

Since this is in the class C forum, it's probably a built-in, and likely an Onan. But I'll be darned if I'm going to waste my time saying more than that, and 'Maybe', until we have more info. Make & model of RV and generator?

This box is what I plan to do when I get a generator.http://youtu.be/XX2xvGYn5ao Also, check out super trapp mufflers. Some people have been able to adapt them onto a generator to quiet it down.
