I had a box in the front, but had to make room for my HCCR Steps. I went with a rear toolbox from here. Although it is a bit awkward to use when hooked up, I enjoy having the tailgate as a working surface when unhooked.

If you use a rear one, you can't just be below the rails, you have to account for the drop and swing of your pinbox. In my case I had to go with a 16" high instead of the 19" high.

I had one below the rails on my previous short bed (with a soft tonneau cover). I now have the front section of a fold-a-cover partitioned off with plywood across the bed to make a lockable storage area. I can cary ice chests or storage boxes behind that without interfering with the hitch in an 8' bed.

I have low profile toolboxes in both of my duallies. No clearance problems at all.

Can I put a tool box in the front of a 8' bed and have room to turn?

You bet!!! I have a low profile tool box in front and behind our 5'er hitch. Both are full and I have no clue where'd I'd put that stuff without the boxes. Since you have a slider hitch I can't way for sure if a box will fit behind your hitch but it'll darn sure fit in front of the bed.

Happy camping!!! See y'all down the road!!!

Bed height and/or low profile tool boxes are both acceptable, there are also other tool boxes as in the above posts that are specifically designed for 5th wheel usage

No problem here. Husky box from the Home Depot. Not the best, but good enough for camping stuff.

The Idea behind this type of tool box is you don't need a tailgate.

It would be much easier to use if you removed your tail gate.

If you want the best quality tool boxes look at www.highwayproducts.com and click on 18 and 28, they show the 5th wheel toolboxes. I have the one at the front of the bed. Mine is 63 1/2 wide 30 deep and 20 high. Mine is out of my 98 Ram and it is wider than what they spec for my 11 Ram. Mine squeezes between the eye hooks at the front of the bed on the sides. I would take some measurements if you have a Ram and want it as wide as possible talk to them and say what I did. My Dad bought a new one for his 12 Ram and it has big gaps on the sides.

I was lucky I found mine on Craigs list for $300, I think they sell for around $1,000.

I've got one also with no problems I have it at about 2" above the truck bed and can turn and clear it pretty resonably although I do think that if I were to be turning at a significant radius and at the same time in a very odd hilly or offroad situation I could possibley hit the top of the tool box but have to this day never come close!
