We are having a hard time figuring out why the lights on the back of our travel trailer will not work. They are the lights up at the top that would illuminate when the headlights of the tow vehicle are on (like running lights,I guess). We have changed all of the fuses, with the exception of one... they are almost all 15s in the fuse box. There is one 40 and right under the 40 there is an empty spot. Could this be for the lights??

this may sound dumb but are all your lights the right bulbs? When I bought my trailer used I replaced the brake/turn signal bulb with a wrong one and it threw all the lights out of wack.

If it is a fuse, it is on the TV, not the trailer. I would start at the front of the trailer, follow the pigtail (plug to the TV), and locate the junction box. I would use a volt meter to check the 7 lines with the lights on and off. If nothing changes the problem is on the TV, if you can see the ~13 volts from the tv, the problem is on the trailer.

We do need to replace one of the brake lights... so there is not a bulb in that particular one. I am going to get a replacement bulb for it in the morning. Could that possibly be affecting the entire track of lights above it? Would be great if it was such an easy fix!

You'll find out shortly, seems like a good place to start.

you must have a short in that system. Or the wires at the plug are not working, or maybe you should get a 12v tester and test the sockets in the clearance light housing. Hard to tell from this end we don't know if all the wiring at the plug in of the truck ore tight , just too many things to take into consideration.

Are the rest of the marker lights working? If so then you have a cut wire at the back of the trailer. If all the marker lights are out then look at the pigtail find the connector that runs the tail lights and slip a wire in it then touch it to the + cable of the trailer battery and see if they light up.
If they do it's the TV if they don't it's the trailer.

The running lights on my trailer worked intermittently and it turned out to be a corroded contact on the 7 wire connector on the truck.

Are you saying the top marker lights on the rear only???

Do the tail lights work when the lights are on???

Do the side and/or front marker lights work???

If non of them are working check at the trucks plug…

While looking at it the top left blade should have 12v on it with the lights turned on…

If not the problem is in the truck, if you have 12v there the problem is in the trailer…

If all the lights don’t work the plug or where the 7 wire cable termenate are the most likely place…

Always check for a good chassis ground first…

When I worked on heavy trucks and trailers...that was where I would always start. Aside from the bulb itself, it's usually the first thing to go bad.

When I had a jet ski many years ago, the lights on the trailer would not come on when hooked up to one vehicle, but would on another vehicle. This was a simple 4 pin plug. Obviously there was an issue with the one vehicles plug. We swapped it out and it worked fine after that. Any chance of plugging another vehicle to it to check?
