That's why many salesmen don't really take phone sales seriously I suppose. The trailer MAY have BEEN available an hour ago (nobody has signed a contract or placed a deposit on it) and in that hour it was purchased. It COULD have just been an error but could just as easily have changed status in that hour.

When we purchased our trailer we had done all the research, and knew exactly what we wanted and were willing to pay. We drove to the dealer that was closest that had one. Walked in walked through it, offered what I was willing to pay, 10 minutes later I was signing papers and they were taking it in to get cleaned up for delivery. Totally possible it just sold in that amount of time.

Yep.. This happens in EVERY type of sales. Unless there's cash (deposit) in hand or a signed agreement, it's not sold.

My BIL is going through this right now as he's trying to purchase his first RV.

I'm pretty sure RV dealerships get more tire kickers than any other product out there though.

For what it's worth, I was looking for a neglected, older RV to restore. I found an 86 Honey class "C" which had some mechanical issues, but the coach was pristine with all accessories working. The asking price was 1800. When I went to go see it, the RV was gone on a road test with another buyer who later came back and said "SOLD". Oh well, guess I was a little too slow. Two days later, I get a call from the original seller saying the guy backed out. Back I went and picked it up. So far, after my repairs this thing has taken my wife and I all across the west. My point is, be patient and whatever is meant to be for you will come to fruition.

Holly/Matt: Don't get discouraged. RV shopping should be lots of fun! Take your time, try to get to an RV show. They sell a lot of units right at the shows. Make a list of 2-3 dealers in a day's driving distance and do it in person! Good Luck!

We fell in love with a KZ Spree at General RV; it was the perfect fit for us. It was not at our local one but in MI. I sent an email early in the day to our salesman that we've been working with, asking IF IT WAS AVAILABLE and what condition it was in. Because why get your hopes up if it's already spoken for, right?!?

He passed me off to the sales manager, who I was up communicating with until 10:30 last night about various things (including price). First thing morning he confirmed the trailer was in excellent condition, after calling the MI location. Then I asked about the different options it had and what the next step is.

Then another hour later it's in "delivery status".....GONE. I am left feeling like "what the heck happened"?!?

I am not so mad that it's gone (there are more out there and we aren't in a rush) as I am that I was lead to believe it was available.

Something similar happened last week when we drove all the way to our local General RV (rearranged our schedules) only to be told the TT we had our eye on was sold that day. WELL CALL US & TELL US THEN!!!!!

Instead he tried to sell us on some old worn out beater that is not what we are looking for.

This whole process is starting to be not so fun...I think we'll take a break for a while and gather our thoughts.

Until you make the deal it's still available to anyone. It might have been available during your email exchange but someone intercepted and bought it in the meantime. I even have this happen with camping reservations. Have been on the phone, was told a great site was available and before the reservationist can even say 'name please" they have said I am so sorry someone just took it (as in a reservationist on another line with a different customer). It is frustrating for sure.

I'd try another dealer. I haven't heard a single good story from someone that purchased from General RV. As APT said, there are at 2-3 within a half hour of my home, but I still wouldn't buy there.

Toys ( boats, motorcycles, rv, snowmobiles etc) are not like cars or houses. Buying repairing and selling them works differently. What you experienced is common as is being turned away for service. Act quick. If its a good deal, risk putting $100 down sight unseen. If multi able offer situation occurs or someone is going to look at the item before you, offer to over pay $100 or paypal $50 to see it first. I've done all of these things and they worked well.

We were sitting in a car dealership filling out the paper work on our first truck and when they went out to get it some other salesman sold it out from under us....Talk about being upset......So if it can happen while sitting in the dealership be careful about email and phone......
