Hello,
the wife and I are wondering if we could get some feedback from some of you "seasoned" rv'ers.
We have found a trailer/dealer/and terms we like(Approx 31% off MSRP). However, the trailer wouldnt arrive at the dealer until the week of Aug. 20th. So most likely I would say late that week for pickup, if and thats a big if, they get it according to schedule.
So the question is, with it being late august here in Michigan; would you proceed with the purchase or hold off until spring? We have one child who will be starting school/scoccer etc. in sept. We are not retired and both work.
So, what are your thoughts???

With a child in school and sports it doesn't leave much time for camping especially with only 2 months left in our camping season up here. I would wait till next year hit the RV shows and buy in early spring. This will give you the whole season to find any of the bugs in the rig and get it all done under warranty.

Fall camping in Michigan is great right though November. The air is fresh and crisp and the leaves are fantastic. There are several good weekend spots available in SE Michigan most under an hour drive time. Many of the state parks let you keep your trailer unoccupied during the week for free as long as you use it (pay) on weekends. The Halloween camping has become a favorite of many families. Decorations are very innovative.

The RV Market has been hurt hard by the economy just like most other recreations. There is a lot of new equipment that is becoming "last year's model", or even the year before that. A third "off MSRP" is just the start of negotiations, in many instances. This Fall would be a great time to take some short trips and explore what all the dealers in the states around you have that they really want to move. As the season winds down, the prices get better. You might think you are getting a good price now, and if you are absolutely sold on the trailer, I can't say don't buy it. BUT, the "Buyer's Market Season" is just starting.

Well, we have picked out a brand/model that we want after looking at many shows and dealers. So I think that part of it is pretty well set.
I see your point about buying in a few months because as you said its more difficult for them to move thier inventory. On the other side, I dont want to buy a travel trailer and drive it home in the snow....
Heck, it was like pulling teeth to get that 31% off msrp...... LOL But again, I suppose as the temp drops so do their prices.
This tracer unit is not even made yet; scheduled to be made/delivered to the dealer during the week of the 20th.
Oh, well, I suppose I will see if they take a lower offer, then at least I would feel a lot better about buying it with a short season left.

We took delivery of a Tracer on August 1st. We were able to get approximately 30% off. We seriously considered waiting, but absolutely fell in love with this TT. We're trying to use it closer to home for the balance of this season. So far, it has exceeded our expectations. Whatever you decide....I hope that you are as happy when you get your TT as we are with ours...Good Luck!!

Many campgrounds stay open to the end of October and I enjoy Sept-Oct camping better than any other time of year. Wife and I usually take trailer to a campground on Thursday night after work to get all set up and spend the night. Up early Friday and head to work which is sometimes a 60 mile drive depending on where we are staying. Friday night after work you get to the trailer and the relaxing and campfire can start right away. Randu

We purchased our current unit at the end of August like you're thinking. If you're into Fall at all, I'd say go for it. We store ours at the Bellville Fairgrounds which is indoors so the snow/freeze cycle doesn't bother it.
PrimeTime has built special units towards the end of the season in the past. They've included some nice options that you would normally pay much more for in an effort to keep their guys working and their end of year units moving (my opinion). It might be worth holding out or sending PT an email asking.
I will have both kids in school this year. Taking the kids out of school early or picking them up right from the bell on Friday's will give us a nice weekend. We'll be heading to Cincinnati, Monroe KOA, Sleeper State Park, and Ludington State Park in the months of September and October and are just as excited about those as we are about the upcoming trip to Lake Huron.
