I've been thinking about this for awhile and thought I would ask if it irritates and puzzles others. The issue is various RV's being listed for sale, whether in the newspapers, craigslist, RV trader or anywhere. Quite a few listers do not specify what the RV is. For example, it may say "Camper for sale" or 25 ft. Jayco or Nice RV, etc and not say whether it is a motor home, pull behind or 5th wheel. Or sometimes they won't state the year or size. Are some of these folks so uninformed about RVing that they don't know it is a problem for a potential buyer, or what?

Very good point! It causes me to just jump over the ad even though it might be something I might be interested in. I do think however, seasoned RVers will put all the pertinent details in and identify their RV. Anything less than that and you just have something for sale.

Newspaper ads charge by the letter and/or word. Internet ads have character limit.

I found the ads that are short, sweet and clear what type of RV they are selling are ones from people who actually RV. The real vague ones sometimes are the ads from the kids where their RV'ing parents have passed away or are unable to sell the RV themselves, and they know nothing about their parents RV. Which BTW one should not pass over these type of ads.

Some may be uninformed but probably more OFTEN someone selling that GENERIC RV probably is out to get as many contacts as possible with the idea of scamming someone in some way. I never would respond to someone who simply says "I have something for sale so contact me and try to find out what it is" and the same for these ambiguous RVs.

Yes it may be cheaper to leave description out but it's a false savings when people looking for something a little specific pass on the add because they don't know what they guy is selling. If the mystery product turns out to be a motorhome, I've found that many owners believe that a motorhome is the ONLY type of RV and everything else is something else so that's always a possibility too.

Many people go through life with blinders on, it's a form of myopia. All they can focus on is their own experience, ergo: all RVs are "campers" just like mine. All RV'ers spend weekends at the lake, just like I do.

They also assume that everyone shares their knowledge of the subject at hand, just observe some of the topic headings on this forum that give no clue as to the subject, like "Have you been to this campground?" Then they wonder why they don't get many responses.

Just human nature I guess.

When I was writing camping permits at IBSP, I lost track of the number of times I would ask, "Are you in a tent, trailer or Motor Home" and the answer would be, "It's a camper."

I would then ask, "Do you drive it or tow it?" and the answer would be, "I don't know, it's just a camper."

After having that conversation two to five times per week, for about five years, I'm not too sure of my sanity.

It's the same as placing an ad or hanging out a For Sale sign with out a price..I stopped and looked at lots of things, bought some, because the price caught my eye. I'm always looking for a deal..No price I'll never stop or call..

When we sold our TT on Craig's list, I put a detailed description of the unit and all its specs in the ad. We had zero responses. After the ad ran it's course, DW said, "Let me write the ad." So, she wrote about the wonderful gourmet kitchen and the newly updated decor and the wonderful, comfortable seating. The trailer sold the next day. So, I think you just have to connect via the right words that click with the right buyer. And of course, pictures help tremendously...something about 1,000 words...

I think I would completely avoid those types of ads if I was in the market because if they don't even know how to properly be descriptive to advertise their unit, they probably didn't know how to properly care for and maintain it either.

Well I think Skip "and others" said it best. It is amazing how many people think there are RVs (MHs) and CAMPERS (anything else). Some people know Popups But yes it is irritating when people do not correctly identify the product they are selling. (Whether it be campers, cars, boats, tools, computers, houses, ETC.) You get the idea
