I have a Progressive Industries Surge/EMS hard wired. I know that the unit is modular, so if there is a problem, and it is out of Warranty you just remove the module that is defective replace it. You should not have to purchase a new unit unless the entire thing went for some reason. Don't know if Surge Guard is the same?

I had a 30AMP Surge Guard burn up at the post. A few years ago.
The replacement one still working good.

Bought a Frank's autoformer a year ago(3/11). And never did get it to work.
It keep tripping the built in 30AMP breaker. So a couple weeks ago I changed the breaker out for a 35AMP one. Same thing after 5 minutes it trips.
I checked with Frank's and the warranty has pasted. And they can't help.

Electrical Engineers have come to the conclusion that -

Your Surge Protection, EMS, 13.5 BTU A/C, 12 cu.ft. Refrigerator, Electric hot Water Heater, Directv Rec'r, TV, Inverter/battery charger ALL ON at the same time as you stated are overloading the Voltage Booster. Since it is out of warranty there would be a charge to checkout and service the VB.

That is BULL SH** as I can also run my 2nd AC plus all the above and not blow the inside or post 30AMP breakers. And I put a 35AMP breaker in the autoformer and it was still tripping being feed by a 30AMP breaker.

May try the PowerMaster next if I keep seeing good reports from users.

Hi All.

I guess you have some bad luck, or your power ocrds are not in very good condition.

We to, have had our Portable, Progressive 30 AMP Surge Protector, and Lock Hasp for at leaast 10 years also. We have used our Surge Protector on our lat 5er and on our Motorhome as well.

We always used our Portable Surge Protector, connected right at the Power Pole with the Lockiing Hasp. Never had any issues with it or anyone bothering it. We did how ever, cover the Surge Protector with a big Black Plastic Bag, durning some pretty wet weather, just to be on the safe side.

For our Motorhomes use, we have an extra 25 ft 30 AMP Power Cord. So we just plug our 30 AMP Surge Protector into the Motorhomes Power Cord, and keep the Portable Surge Protector inside the Storage Compartment, and use the spare 30 AMP Power Cord to the Power Pole.

That way it keeps it out of sight, and out of any weather issues. And we have not had any issues using the extra 25 ft of extra 30 AMP Power Cord.

I aways check the Out-Lets on the Power Poles, to see if they are Damaged or Burnt areas. I also keep all of my Power Cord ends clean, and always shined up, and use some Die-Electric Grease on them also.

Our 30 AMP Surge Protector has saved us a few times, both for Low and High Voltage. We also have a "Voltage Meter" plugged in all of the time, so we can see our incomming power at a glance.

We have been very pleased with our Progressive Portable 20 AMP Surge Protector. And think it has been money well spend. Good Luck. Happy Travels. Dan & Jill

I've had good luck with the 30 Amp Surge Guard and Hughes Autoformer for the past 10 years.

Interesting since I picked up a used Frank's 30 amp that is also is dropping out. At first I thought it was a thermal overload, but it works fine at home on bypass and low boost. It definitely drops out at a state campground on high boost. The time varies from 10 minutes to many hours before it fails. My Progessive EMS says that I am drawing between 15 and 20 amps with the front a/c on etc.

to the OP
check your circuit breaker panel
make sure your loads are equally divided, so that both legs are sharing the load, not good If both A/c's are on the same power leg
with too much load on one leg you could be over heating one side of the autoformer boost windings

also is this hardwired, is there any ventilation in the compartment
assuming your main concern is your A/C units, you are going to be pulling a lot power and creating a lot of heat
the autoformer needs to be able to dissipate that heat

minimizing the load by tuning off the WH during the day might also help

I have the Progressive Industries 50amp portable unit, and had to send it back once and they repaired it free of charge under their lifetime warranty. Is has saved use from low voltage this year. Voltage dropped to 104vac then to 71 vac. The power co. had a main power line problem about 10 pm, and had it fixed about 12:45 am.

"If both A/c's are on the same power leg

We have only one AC.

"also is this hardwired..."

No, they were both portable units.
