I have a 2006 Tour master Diesel pusher. We were driving down the road when we smelt smoke coming from the front of the RV. We pulled over and opened the front panel for the generator. There is a small air compressor located on the fire wall and it was smoking and very hot to the touch. It usually runs for a while when I start the RV and then every so often. It was apparently locked up. I cut the hot wire that went to the compressor, and it stopped smoking. I don’t know what this air compressor is for. I still have good air pressure, I released the air in the air bags and pumped the brakes to see if the air would come back up and it did. Is it safe to drive?
It's probably a vacuum pump for actuating the dash air doors that direct the airflow. Easily replaced and safe to drive unless you need the defroster badly.

Do you have an air leveling system...if so, this could be the air compressor to keep it level..Dennis

I got to where we were going and was able to trace the air line. The air line goes to a small air tank under the RV then to the air horns. The tank has a lot of rust on the bottom so I think it was leaking causing the air compressor to over work. At least I know what it is now.
