The preference setting dictates what happens when you subscribe. It does not change previous subscription selections. That is, If you subscribe to topics A, B, and C, with email notification selected in your preferences, then email is turned on for those topics. Then, if you change your preferences to no email, that has no effect on A, B, and C. It will dictate what happens to future subscriptions.
On your My Programs page, click on the blue 'Off' links to turn off email for those subscriptions, if you don't want any emails.
