We did something similar back in 2004 that took us close to 70 days and basically went down I-81 out of NoVa to I-40 and across to Bakersfield, Ca via the Grand Canyon and down to San Diego. Then up to Stockton and across the Sierras on I-80 to the Black Hills. Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse and then across to Wisconsin, Michigan and Pa. then back to home just outside of D.C. With side trips IIRC is was close to 11K miles ... Great trip and very enjoyable.

Larry, sounds like a great trip. Isn't it wonderful to live in a country that has so much beauty. Where you can be driving in the desert one day, mountains the next, and around the ocean the next. And to be able to see so much history. I get emotional everytime I think of all the great places we have been to and look forward to the next trip. Really think we need to go to the New England area. Still haven't seen New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont, and New Jersey.
