So sorry to hear about your wife... It comes to us all, but it is never easy.
Puppies are such chaos machines and then one day they grow up, and if you're lucky and you did the work, you get an amazing companion.

What a beautiful story. It must be a burden lifted from your wife, too, as she knows you will not be alone. Pets are sometimes (always?) angels in disguise.

Sounds like Millie rescued you as much as you rescued her!! I'm so sorry to hear about your wife's ill health, but the unconditional love and loyal companionship you'll receive from Millie is sure to help ease your pain. God bless.

There are really no words to give you comfort, but know that you will be in everyone's thoughts here on this forum. I lost my husband 4 years ago and my little guy helped me so much through the difficult times. Stay strong and always remember that you have wonderful memories to cherish.

I'm so glad you found Millie just when you needed her!
When I lost my Callie dog to cancer three years ago I was devastated. A little shocked and dismayed with myself I brought a shelter dog home only 14 days later. Two months later I was diagnosed with breast cancer. A year and a half later my cancer had spread to my bones. I always felt God and Callie led me to Sandy, she has been such a blessing. Dogs can heal our souls, even when our bodies can't be healed. Eventually my husband will be where you are now. I'm glad you'll have Millie to hold your heart when you lose your wife. ((((hugs))))

Same here 30 years of Danes and many/multiples of them when I lost the last 2 dogs within weeks of each other I said NO MORE dogs.
I have to tell you it is a very eerie feeling not having a dog in the house. I lasted 2 weeks, 1 day, 6 hours and when a rescue call for help came in I took it and went just to see a dog again.
That rescue is the first and ONLY fostered rescue that ever stayed in our home after recuperating from abuse. Fast forward 10 years he has been my RV'ing buddy and is now 12 years old with thousands of miles under his belt.
So I can understand how Millie is so special and was sent to you and your wife in your time of need. You will be in our prayers.

Bless you for hanging in there with Millie and giving her the time she needed to be the good dog she is - not everyone would have done that.
My husband is ill with cancer and my dog has brightened many dark days.
Saying a prayer for continued peace and strength for you and your wife.
