He said his claim was denied because he didn't take it to an authorized dealer.

As far as "There is either something you are not telling us". No there isn't anything I am not telling you. We took our NEW TT in to have a few things looked at and was asked to sign a document saying that we may be responsible for time spent investigating/diagnosing.
Normal!!
If it's a warranty issue then it will be covered under the manufacturer warranty. If there is nothing wrong then you pay the bill.

Warrenty work including diagnostic time is payed for by Jayco. The dealer is trying to get paid for the same work from two sources. IF the dealer will screw with warrenty work imagine what he will do to you for out of pocket work. Time to find an honest repair shop.

I think what the dealer is saying is if the water pump is not covered under warranty for some reason, you have to pay the bill.

Yes and no.
If indeed it is a warranty issue then yes the work including diagnostic is covered as such.
What any...any...dealer does is have you sign saying if NOT warranty then you the customer pays for that work.
Again...normal procedure.

Diag fees are paid by some manufacturers, some they are not. Call your dealer to find out for sure.
Usually if a true warranty repair ensues from that diag then the diag fee is covered. The only reason some mfg's do this is in the case of a dealer diagnosing and the issue isn't really a warranty issue, and in that case they don't cover it.

The document said that the items being looked at may be covered under warranty, however the cost of investigating those items may not be. Basically saying that even if they ARE covered under warranty, their time spent on investigating/diagnosing we may have to pay for!
I am a reasonable person, and understand that if I am out of warranty then I am out of warranty and I would then be responsible for repairs. I am not a reasonable person however when it is a brand new trailer and the first time we go to use something it does not work correctly. I should not be responsible for fixing something (investigating/diagnosing time included) for something that came jacked up from the factory! The dealer should have caught this, before they sold it, IMO.
They have fixed the loud water pump and low water pressure issue (it was kinked somewhere). My husband will be picking it up this week, I am curious to see what happens.
Don't buy green bananas! Do the things you wish you could do, now, don’t wait on them. There just might not be a tomorrow.

No, they are saying they "MAY" not be covered. That is not the same as sayign they are not covered. And the reason they even put this in there is explained in the two responses above your post.
In most likelihood if the repair is covered under warranty so will the diagnostic fees.
