We are planning a trip to Vicksburg and New Orleans in route to our winter texan home and since these trips will be kinda short (few days each), we were looking for the "must see", "must stay", "must eat at" type if things! Any suggestions or recommendations would be appreciated!

The military park is a must see when traveling to Vicksburg. In the city is the Biedenharn museum which is interesting. There are several casinos if you like those. Quite a few really nice Antebellum homes that give tours, Like Cedar Grove.

Enjoy your trip !!

Suggest the French Quarter RV Resort in New Orleans. Believe it or not it's only 3 blocks from the french quarter. It's gated with lots of security. We've stayed there several times. Check their listing in Trailer Life Directory for more info. The location makes a good base for seeing the different parts of the city. All sites are paved and well landscaped. www.fqrv.com
Good luck and safe travels.

Riverview RV at Vidalia is across the river from NATCHEZ not Vicksburg.

Nice convenient place for visiting Natchez. All the ones on the MS side didn't look like somewhere I would be comfortable staying.. All I saw were mobile home parks with junky mobile homes and a space or two for RV's.

You are right, I did confuse Natchez with Vicksburg! Sorry!
It was Ameristar RV in Vicksburg we stayed at. It suited us well for our visit.

Stay at Pontchortrain Landing, it dosnt come up when you do a campground search (I don't get that) but its a great place. They have a shuttle to the French quarter every hour & you can camp right on the water.
Its a lot easier to get to than the one by the French Quarter & you don't have to drive down streets that look like a bomb zone in Irag like the one by the French quarter.

The National D-Day Museum* in New Orleans is worthwhile if you have even a passing interest in the subject. National D-Day Museum

*They call themselves the National WWII Museum now, which is not exactly true because the National Museum of the Pacific War is in Fredericksburg, Texas.
