We are also not taking our boat as much as we did in the early days and taking kayaks and dirt bikes etc. more. (in a trailer). So, have been looking at 5th wheel toy haulers. Any input good or bad on your experience or thoughts on the matter much appreciated. I hate to leave what I consider to be an elite club but I guess times change and rigs do as well.
Why are you "stuck" inside on the computer? When I'm out on the road and it's raining, the last thing I am going to do is sit inside my Lance all day. I don't care of it's my 10' Lance or a 32' 5er, sitting in any RV is not why i'm on the road. I think some people just like to play the "RV mery-go-round". Todd, you have the ultimate setup with nice toy "accessories", get out and use them!
We just bought a TC to take on trips when we want to explore goat trails. Our 25' fifth wheel took us to a lot of remote spots, but we sometimes did not go down a dirt track because of the uncertainty of turning around.
Will keep both RVs ... both have advantages. Longer excursions or destination camping will likely have us in the fifth wheel. The truck camper for weekend exploring and poking around, impulse fishing nights, and the such.
I have a 34' Avion triple axle trailer and an Avion C-11 TC. I'm putting the C-11 on a single axle trailer because I can't get the 34' trailer into places where I want to go. I could put the TC on my F-350, but I like the simplicity of uncoupling and being done with setup. Besides, with the TC on the truck, I wouldn't have the extra water and LP.
They all have their places, you just need to decide what is right for you. Pulling a large trailer is just a hassle, especially when many places won't, or can't, accomodate them.

We had both for several years finally selling the TC when DW started having too many issues getting into and out of the cabover bed.

I enjoyed your account very much when you purchased the AF and brought it home. Excellent trip report. So......if or when you get the toyhauler give us an equally good report of that experience and trip.
Thank You! That was quite the first trip! Sure glad I was not in a 5ver on that run. I will have to see if we can have another memorable maiden voyage but maybe a bit warmer :-O

We are seeing more now than we ever saw before. Being able to maneuver in and around tigher areas and towns has been such a delight. No more worrying about places to park. The convenience of stealth camping is a great plus. Now that we are spoiled with this TC lifestyle, I dont think I could ever go back.
If you need something larger, then you dont have much choice. Im sure you will have a great time in whatever you get.
Besides that, you got the best TC out there, so why change?? LOL
Yes, I actually owned a 34' 5ver several years ago. I did not mind the larger trailer but did get in a few tight spots along the way.

That is a good point. We actually lived out a few bucket list items towing our boat to the Keys and to Lake Powell. Now we find that we do not really want a steady dose of cross country boat hauling and we miss our trailer / garage when we tow the boat. We still like the many TN area lakes and plan to take a 2nd truck and haul the boat to some of our favorite campgrounds alongside the TH. Will likely also add a Waverunner to the toy list to haul in the TH garage ;-)
RVs/camper/travel trailers are all compromises. Parking, drivability, size, fuel costs, etc...
We looked at a lot of toy haulers over the years but it seemed like we always ended up only able to use the biggest 37' and up ones because we would have needed ''at least'' the 12 foot garages and would still need to leave stuff at home. With two quads and a Polaris RZR, plus bicycles the little garages fill up fast. Then with a 12 foot garage and a 37' or 40+' toy hauler we'd be limited quite a bit on the spaces we go to when staying at Oregon State Camp grounds and also just riding/camping in the woods (trees). We like to 'just' go camping, hauling no trailer; bicycles on a bike rack, and we also like to go camping and riding taking all the toys.
Our (mine) ultimate plan is to move to a bigger house with a shop and more parking for toys so we can purchase a big toy hauler and still keep the TC and all the other toys. We are about three years from doing this.
This is one of my main concerns but we have only visited one state park in 2 years that would not accommodate the larger rig. It will be a bit of a hassle, especially pulling into restaurants and some fuel stations etc.

I have to agree with you, much prefer being outside. The thing is I work from home or more frequently from the campground on the internet. So, even though I have the freedom to travel and change the scenery, I still have to put in 10+ hours a day taking care of business. I do a lot of webinars and conference calls and it is a pain for the DW and child to have to stay outside. I have to turn the air off because it is too loud for the calls and that can be rough when it is over 100 degrees. Would be really nice to setup shop in the garage and let the family have the rest of the TH for their use. I do a lot of my work at night and some days are a lighter load than others but it is a bit of a challenge overall in the TC.
I have both, we use the 5th TH to haul our buggy to the desert in the winter months and the TC for summer getaways. I put the TC in storage in the winter, and the TH stays in our side yard year round. We like the living space and cargo hauling of the TH for our desert trips and the convenience of the TC to just load and go. Some day I may get rid of the TH but not the TC, it will be with us until we can't camp anymore.
