I ordered the Heavy Duty Bilsteins from Eshocks this morning, after talking to Chuck out there. He agreed that the HDs gave the best control. They also didn't have the Comfort shocks in stock and said it'd been since June that they had been out of stock. Free shipping applied.

I'll report back when I get them on. It may be a while till I get er done, though. I'm heading back up to the river and my Doghouse sooner, rather than later. Hate to miss any more of the summer, this R-tired thing is leaving me with way too many people finding things for me to do!

Thx for all the help with my dilemma. Sometimes, (no Most of the time), I have trouble making a decision as to what to buy. LOL

I really do appreciate those who took time to clue me in.

Are there two Bilstein models, a comfort series and HD series?

Can anybody comment on pros and cons of those?

Chuck @ eshocks said the Comforts provide a smoother ride, but less sway control. HDs more control, stiffer ride, and a couple $s less. He did not want to give an opinion as to which ones to use.

He did mention that the Comfort model was 'not in stock'.

i would go with softer shocks and stiffer anti-sway bar.

I considered that option too. The Back Order status was a deterrent for me, as I want to get them on before our fall trip into Nebraska and Kansas.

If I'm not happy with the sway and ride, I'll add Firestone airbags plumbed individually to the rear suspension, to take some of the steel out of the equation. I've always preferred air to steel anyway, in spite of the chance of leaks. I also ride a bit low in the rear, so the lift will be appropriate when I get a 'Round Tuit'.

I do agree with the smoother ride however. Just a different angle to get there.

With any luck I'll have the Bilsteins on by the end of the month.

I'll watch this for follow up on the shock installation. Has anyone used the Bilstein HD and found the ride too rough?

In both my experiences, the Bilstein HD's actually provide a softer ride than the OEM Ford shocks. Initial impact harshness is much less, but the valving is not linear so large shock shaft movements are much more damped, which provide the better body control the Bilsteins are known for.

I used to be undecided but now I'm just not sure.

Will be following this thread with interest. Maybe it's because we don't have high line cars, SUVs, etc. but I've never been disappointed with the FRONT axle ride of the two Class C's we've had. So, I'd opt for the HD, wanting the most control vs perhaps an easier ride.

I put CarQuest gas shocks on the front of our previous C (1983 E350) and was very pleased with the results. So like Rockhill, there's room for satisfaction in the mainstream brands as well as the exotics.

Be sure to keep us updated. I want to replace soon and for me the contest is Bilstein HD vs Monroe Gas Magnum RV.

We install Bilstein's on our MFH (motorhome from hell) it made 500% improvement in the ride and handling of it. When I need new shocks on our current rig I will buy Bilstein Shocks.
