I have a friend who has a new to him 80's Class C and is having problems with the oven. The pilot will light just fine but the Burner won't light at all. It has what i call a sensor type wire running from the oven control knob with a thermocouple type end on it down to the pilot light. I cleaned that with no results. I don't think the valve in the control knob is getting the signal to open and send gas to the burner. I think the control knob is faulty. Any ideas ? Sorry i don't remember the make of the stove but thanks in advance for our help. Jeff

Make sure when you turn the oven thermostat up to around 300 that the pilot flame gets large and engulfs the thermocouple. The thermocouple on the pilot burners needs to get red hot, usually a minute or two for the safety valve to open for gas to flow to the burner. If the pilot flames does not get larger than the pilot burner is bad or oven thermostat is bad, if the flame get larger and the thermocouple get red hot and the safety valve does not open then the safety valve is bad.

Take the pilot burner out and clean it with a wire brush and make sure no bug has made a nest in the burner tubing. Put the pilot burner back in and try again. If the flame does not increase to engulf the thermocouple than the oven thermostat is bad. You can try removing the oven thermostat and taking it to an large Appliance Parts store and see if they can match it up.
