I have a Linear LS4000 wall-mount stereo in my trailer, and would like to update it with something that will accept a USB thumb drive and play MP3 files. A CD player would be nice but not essential, and a DVD player or display is useless to me. About the only replacement options I can find are two Jensen stereos in the $275-300 price range.
Can anyone recommend a cheaper option for a wall-mount USB player? I am toying with the idea of making an adapter face-plate and using a car stereo, but would rather stick to something designed as a wall-mount if possible.
Thanks,
Regan

Go with a car stereo and make a nice wooden wall plate and NEVER look back.
Car stereos tend to be much better in quality than any RV stereos in many aspects, like tuner, CD player, sound quality and most of all RELIABILITY!!!
To put that into perspective I have a aftermarket car stereo in my 2003 truck, it was also in my previous 97 truck. This stereo has logged 15 yrs of use and now has 338,000 miles of music played (and most of that via the CD player). Don't try that with a RV stereo...
Often times since a car stereo is much more compact you can even make some nice cubby shelves to boot.
If you do go with a car stereo, I just had to swap out my dash stereo and went with this Kenwood. So far so good, and like you I like the USB plug for my iPod and the user interface is designed to work with iPods.
Concertone is the only other wall/rv unit I know of, think it's more expensive then jensen though. Agree with others an auto will give better sound, options and reliability.

I have a Voyager AWM900 and the radio reception is really bad. I do have an external antenna on the roof, but the radio in my truck works better.
The thumbdrive would be very handy to have.
Well, I replaced the wall-mount with a JVC car stereo, and I am very pleased with the improvement in sound as well as listening options. Thanks for all your input!
I am now trying to figure out how to hold my settings when I turn the battery off, so I posted a new thread here:
