I heeded the warning and actually saw this happening to several other's hoses who didn't. Squirrels, chipmuncks, birds, etc. all can do damgage that goes unseen until the moment of truth. I don't have to paint that picture for you, do I? Think about the hose-down scene in the movie "RV".
I figured there had to be some rational reason not to hook the hose up. Yours must be it as that makes sense.
Somehow over the years I have wound up with 3 sewer hoses in my back (Sanitary) compartment. I honestly can't remember how or why. Perhaps I have another personality that takes over at night and steals the 2 or 3 sewer hoses a year...

If were just passing thru for 1 nite we won't hook the sewer hose up. If were there for 2+ nites then we will hook up the sewer hose and open the grey valve. We leave the black valve closed till right before we leave to let whatever is in there break down and for extra flush water to built up which helps drain it.

one less thing of many to setup when we get there.
Theft? You must be kidding! Who in their right mind would even consider stealing a dirty, stinky slinky. Can't be any resale market for those. If somebody wants mine, have at it. I have more...

I just wait untill I need it. I don't want the sun breaking down the plastic anymore than it has to.

Man, I'll go ahead and take the $20 hit every couple years from the UV light degrading the plastic and just leave it on.

We are "weekenders". I don't hookup the sewer hose until just before we leave the campground at the end of the weekend. Our black tank will easily last my family of 4 for 3-4 days and more. Grey tank is another story.
I bought a camper sewer cap that has the attachment for a garden hose. When we are showering at a campsite with grey or black tank hookup, I just hookup the grey tank hose and drain the grey tank once or twice a day, depending on use. Just crack the campsite sewer cap and put the end of the grey tank hose into and drain the grey tank, takes just a couple minutes. My "grey tank hose" is just a 25 foot garden hose with duct tape wrapped near the ends to mark it. I have rubber gloves to wear, and spray the end of the hose with bleach after using it.
The night before we leave I don't drain the grey tank. A couple showers will fill it plenty to help when I drain the tanks just before we leave the next day.
When we are dry camping (no hookups), my family is well versed on "Navy showers" to conserve water.

I'm normally not connected, as we practice dry camping so to speak
always. We've had th trailer 4 months now, fulltiming, and have yet
to connect water to the city water connection except to test for leaks.
just seems easier this way. We have been, more often than not, dry
camping in mountains and national forests.

I don't hook mine up until I need it. which is usually 4-5 days in. frankly I don't hook it up when I arrive, because the last thing I want to deal with is that ****.
