Anyone traveling in Colorado this week needs to be aware of the road closures and delays from the USA Pro Challenge bicycling race. It starts Monday, Aug 20, in Durango and ends Sunday in Denver. It is a road race so it will be moving to different parts of the state each day.
This is a top level professional bicycle race with a international field. In some of the locations the spectators will number in the thousands. There will be international television coverage.
The Colorado DOT web site has all of the information on the roads involved and when there will be closures. Since this is a road race, except for the start and finishes, they use rolling closures that go along the race route. Most days the races cover 100 plus miles of road. So in any location the closure will only last a couple of hours at the most. Except for the traffic delays from thousands of spectators. The high mountain passes on the routes will take longer to clear of traffic.

Just a question -- did anyone watch the race on NBCsports? It was great to see the Beautiful San Juan's in the coverage, Lizard Head Pass deserved a little more screen time but it was fun to watch.
Today the trip is from Montrose to Crested Butte, just be aware if you are in the area, the finish in CB should again be Beautiful.
Got to watch the whole trip up Independence Pass today on the Computer -- It sure looked good, a whole lot of people were on the road to see it. Tomorrow they do Independence Pass again then through Leadville and Rt 24 to Beaver Creek, another pile of Beautiful Colorado.
