With campgrounds having quiet time at night, for what purpose do people need a generator. I could see it being used for air conditioning at night and if you want to watch T.V. during the day. I am new to travel trailer camping but I have done alot of tent camping at primitive campgrounds. I'm trying to see if a generator is something I should consider getting for primitive in my travel trailer... I would love to hear everyone thoughts. Thank you in advance!
Generators are, for the most part, used to charge batteries. Some use them to run the MW or a fry pan, or other high watt appliance. Having quiet time at night pretty much obviates running a/c at night.
Running a generator to watch TV should be a federal offense.

Oh really, I "Boondock" a number of times in Casino parking areas, along with semis, and other motorhomes, etc...............yet no one complains we are running gens...................so, your Blanket statement ................ .is a wet blanket, not pertainent to all.
To the original poster, if you do not need AC, then solar my be the way to go ...but if you "Boondock" in rest stops, desert, etc......... want to get away from it all, and still have 110, then a gen may do trick for you.
One size does not fit all.

Easy there bro, we're taking about primitive campgrounds. Or so I thought.. but .. sigh.
If all you wish to run is a television a small inverter will meet your needs. No need for a smelly, noisy, and expensive to run generator.
As for "boondocking" next to transport trucks--that is not what most rv'ers would consider an "ideal" place for a nice relaxing spot to stay for a few days.
The words 'primative campground' and 'generator' do not belong in the same sentence. Matter of fact, do not belong in the same paragraph or even on the same page.
I don't mean for a few days. i am talking overnight . ....., and I do primitive camp in many places, the National Fores'st in Michigans Upper Penn. are massive ........... thousands of acres, many times completly empty, just one rv.so, my logic of having a genny works for me, I thought he asked what, and why..............I guess I must be wrong.

MY "Primative camping" areas , are thousands of acres, in size...... so, one can go for days without seeing another soul, esp in off season.....once again, blanket statment .....for your blanket....not mine .
