Here is the deal. The new TT came with mini blinds. DW hates them, and in truth they aren't very practical. she wants shades. I have a question. Can you see out of the day night shades, meaning can you raise themm so that you can see out of the window? she wants pleated shades,. But I don't if you can't raise them out of the way.
yes you can raise them to see out the window. they may take up a little more room at the top of the window open, then when you pull the mini-blinds up, but nother significant.
Good Sam Life Members. Camping with two young children in a 2007 Pilgrim fifth wheel (278BHSS) pulled with a 2002 F350.
Difficult to clean, especially the side next to window.
The lower anchor screws pull out of the walls.......tension and thin wall material doesn't leave much for screw tightening, which is needed to hold shades up.
String breaks.....have to remove complete assembly, disassemble, restring and then rehang. The restringing part is pretty easy..the removing/rehanging PITA.
We're sorry we got them. Replaced the large rear window set with drapes (darkout type) 4 panels. Easy open/close and a snap to clean. We now use our rear window a lot more.
Still looking for replacements for windows in living room/kitchen (9 windows).
Bedroom ones at always fully down so they will remain...for now.

I have both day/night shades and mini-blinds in my rig and I have a problem with EACH.
First of all, I HATE the day/night shades for all the reasons that Old Biscuit has mentioned........especially the string breaking. The cheap twine that they string those things with fray and break, and then you have two choices.......restring them yourself and try not to go nuts in the process, or have it done for you at about $40 or $50 each. I've had a total of seven repaired before I replaced them with drapes and curtains.
The mini-blinds are fine except that we have a cat, and he's always trying to squeeze through them to look out at night, bending them and making all kinds of racket. However, if you don't have a cat, blinds would be my first choice.
I would agree that I would choose mini-blinds over day-night shades. But there is another option. Hunter-Douglas has a shade that can be installed in an RV. They are $, but they are nice and easy to use. No, I did not install them, we looked at them when we were buying the shades for the stick house. And they install them.
Thanks guys. I'll let DW read this, and decide. In the old TT. I replaced the dinet miniblind with a regular house roll up shade. It worked for me. Maybe I'll try to talk her into that.

X2 When they break, I do the PITA maneuver to remove them. We special order Bali Blinds, cut to fit. And, never look back. 3 more day/night shades to go, before we have all Blinds. Bali's easy to install, and more functional than the PITA to open, close, clean, etc.......
That's our experience with 2 RVs and too many day/nighters.....Your mileage may be different. OBTW, no Cat....Blinds no problemo.

Our rig has the Bali blinds and we have the fraying cord issue. We too are in the market and really like the Roman style shades.
