DW and I each have our own laptop, Itunes account and IPOD. Her computer has died, killing her Itunes Library. I have synced her IPOD to my Itunes on my laptop and backed up everything on her IPOD that was bought through the Itunes Store to my computer, so all of that is safe.
The problem: it only backed up the stuff bought from the Itunes Store. She has lots of stuff that she had imported into her Itunes Library and put on her IPOD from other sources. I have not been able to copy any of that from her IPOD to my computer. Is there a way for me to back that stuff up to my computer? She will be devastated if she loses all of that.
Ultimately, she will have her laptop back, but we want her IPOD Library safe in the meantime.
Thanks,
Bobbo

Unfortunately, what you are trying to do is not a simple as you might think it would be. This article provides an excellent overview of your options: Copying music from iPod to comptuer
It does appear that the easiest thing to do is to obtain one of the 3rd party software items referred to in the article.

Depending on how her computer died, you may be able to recover it by "slaving" the hard drive on another machine or there are many external devices that will hook up her drive for recovery.
These days, I spend a lot of time thinking about the hereafter... I go somewhere to get something, and then wonder what I'm "here after."

Ditto, when our old laptop died, we had a computer wiz copy the old hard drive to a portable one. Now I have to have the portable HD plug into the new laptop to 'sync' the i-pod.

Her library should be safe on the iPod itself. Do have have an iPhone or iPad by chance? The library is also stored in the "Cloud" and could easily be accessed through a number of Apple products by downloading from the Cloud. When she does get her computer back (I assume it is a PC and not a Mac) you could then use the method above to copy them onto the computer.

We don't know which version of iPod she has. Later versions can sync to iCloud; it would move everything to the cloud. If it is an older, dumb one, getting the hard drive into an external USB shoe is the easiest, cheapest, best bet. All the contect from iTunes store is always available for download.
Now you have learned the importance of having a fresh backup. When you get it all working, by a few external drives, keep everything backed up with one drive somewhere safe and away from the other data.

Her IPOD is an IPOD classic bought new almost exactly 1 year ago. I don't know anything about the cloud.
HOWEVER:
Page 2 of this link showed how to manually import everything back into Itunes directly from the IPOD. IT WORKS! Everything is now safe back in my Itunes, and I now know how to put it back in her Itunes when her computer is back.
Thanks all.

There are places that fix I-Pods, they are repairable and/or recoverable. Google I-Pod Repair or POD DROP (The name of one such place that is here in Michigan).
Pod Drop can fix most of the issues with an I-pod and upgrade the battery all for a very small (relative to a new one) Fee, usually they can recover all your music as well.
Once you get the unit back: Consider making a FULL BACK UP of it's drive.
(Years ago I worked part time in a computer store, one of our customers was a man known as Dr. DOS, his doctoral thesis was on the Disk Operating System for the computers we used, In his book (he says it is his partner who wrote this line though) he talks about running a disc data recovery program (These were floppies) and says that while it is running is a good time to think about the value of making backups.
Actually.. BEFORE you need it is when you should do that.
I recall one day making a full backup of my main computer, which had been suggesting I might wish to do that soon.. The job finished, and .. That was the last task the drive ever ran.. It crashed, big time right after finishing that task.
Total data loss: ZERO BYTES,, since the last successful task was a full back up.
I went out and bought a new driver, restored and all was good.. What I SHOULD have done (with luck like that) was buy Lotto tickets .
