Hello,
I've got a 2011 Trail Sport 20RD and love it lot. We bought it last year and have made several trips across country. I had the wheel bearings repacked last year, and was getting ready to do it again, when I looked in the Manual and found that the trailer's wheel bearings are sealed and don't need to be repacked---Duh!!. You know--Read the manual first. A little late for me.
Does anyone know whether repacking a sealed wheel bearing destroys the seal and thus takes away the quote from the manual: "The sealed wheel bearings comes from the factory permanently greased for the duration of its life", or do I now have wheel bearings that need to be repacked periodically.
If I now have to repack them periodically now, can anyone tell me the mileage or time frequency.

Sealed bearings are just that--sealed. I'm not sure how the person even repacked them. Most sealed bearings have a seal integral to the inner and outer race. There's no way to get grease in them. I would take it to someone who knows what they're doing and have it checked.

And that place would be somewhere else then the first place you took it....that place 'ripped you off.......knowingly'.
Got the receipt from that job....take it to shop and ask them 'why they charged you for bearing repack on sealed bearings'
Probably won't get your money refunded but the look and stammering could be priceless.
As for your 'greased' bearings....really do need to inspect or have inspected just to be sure that other shop didn't screw them up.

Sealed bearings have a metal seal on both sides of the rollers. If you look at them they will be dry on the outside. There is no way to get grease into them..Something doesn't sound right here.

Just because the manual has a section on sealed bearings does not mean the OP has sealed bearings. I suspect it was an option on his trailer that he does not have. But if he paid someone to pack his bearings and they are sealed he go ripped off big time.

Pull a wheel and inspect what you have. I suspect that is what the shop did.

Maybe the owner's manual states that "the hubs have bearings that are sealed" rather than "the hubs have a sealed bearing that doesn't need grease". The only thing that can happen if they are a sealed bearing is that the hub may contain too much grease and that may creep into the interior of the hub where the brake shoes are located. Not likely but the hubs/bakes should be inspected and the bearings set as a periodic service item, anyway.
