We bought our 2006 Rockwood popup new and are now looking to sell it and either buy a hybrid travel trailer or a travel trailer. I have some questions and am hoping some of you will offer up your advice/opinions, etc.
1. Do hybrid trailers always have canvas beds that slide or fold in? Are they ever hard-sided?
2. Do travel trailers have slide outs like hybrids?
3. Can you recommend any hybrids or trailers that are lightweight, no more than 5,000 lb. loaded an no more than 23 feet long?
Thank you for your help,
Tina

1. Do hybrid trailers always have canvas beds that slide or fold in? Are they ever hard-sided? hybrid means a merging of a popup with a travel trailer. so yes, a hybrid has canvas ends.
an expandable can mean a variety of types of trailers, including hybrids. a hard-sided rear bed slide trailer is an expandable but not a hybrid, since it doesn't have the canvas.
so, all hybrids are expandables but not all expandables are hybrids. by the way, hybrid bunk ends fold down, like a truck's tailgate. they don't slide.
2. Do travel trailers have slide outs like hybrids? travel trailers had slideouts many years before the first hybrid was created. your question should be the other way around, "do any hybrids have slideouts, like travel trailers do?"
the answer to that is yes, many hybrids have slideouts but only in the larger 21'+ lengths
3. Can you recommend any hybrids or trailers that are lightweight, no more than 5,000 lb. loaded an no more than 23 feet long? all hybrids are lightweight and built on ultra-lite frames. there are too many to name that meet those numbers. my 24' hybrid weighs around 5000lbs. loaded for camping. so yes, many hybrids are less than 5000lbs. and shorter than 23'.
Thank you for your help,
keep in mind that pulling a hybrid or travel trailer, is vastly different than pulling a popup. especially with higher power requirements and lower gas mileage.

I think you need to go to an rv show or walk around a big dealers lot and narrow down some floorplans. There would be literally 100 different trailers that fit in your criteria. Less than 5000 and less than 23 feet.
what do you mean by less than 23 feet?...is that the "total" length requirement due to storage issues?
and I will ask what everyone will want to know. What do you plan on using to tow with?
KZ makes a rear-slide TT with a slideout that houses the dinette. Around 24 feet, give or take. Watch the weight, and don't believe everything a salesperson tells you.

Um, you're not planning on towing it with your Odyssey, are you?
not necessarily true, Outback has a couple of rear bed slide models with a side slideout and the Roo/Shamrock lines also have one model with both.
yes, if you're planning on towing with the Odyssey, then that changes everything!
figure only the smallest hybrids, in the 15'-17' range, with no slideouts.
but since you asked about a 5000lbs. max trailer, i have to assume you're not planning on towing with the Odyssey, since its max towing is 3500lbs.

Thank you for your help,
I just ordered one of these. It is a KZ spree 16rbt, weights just under 2400lbs.

Dick, once again, the TrailManor is NOT a hybrid. a hybrid travel trailer is defined as a merging of a popup(canvas) with a conventional travel trailer.
TM's have NO CANVAS, therefore do not meet the definition of a hybrid TT.
it does meet the definition of an expandable. within the class of an Expandable are: hard-sided rear bed slide trailers, Hi-Los, TMs and hybrids.
all hybrids are expandables but not all expandables are hybrids.
This one looks great! Thanks for sharing the picture and floor plan.
