I just did this a couple of weeks ago. First noticed it when I put in a new driveway.

The driveway gave me room to park the 5er and truck on concrete. Water was getting around the hood seal and running across the battery tray. This in turn created a rust stream coming out by the mud flap.

The coolant tank has two fasteners, the one on the rear over the front of the battery tray, one under the air cleaner box, and it is pressed on to a bracket on the fender. You have to go straight up on the bracket. It was on quite firmly for mine.

I was able to work mine loose and get the battery tray out without removing the bolt under the air cleaner.

BTW While I was doing this, I pulled the factory fender flares and found about a pound of dirt behind each. I removed them for good and really like the look better. Especially since dually's don't have them on the rear anyway. At least not on 2003's
